Changing Stereo?

Hi Guys,

I did a search for Windstar stereo and almost all I came up with is related to the blend door actuator.

Here's the deal. My wife has a 2000 Windstar (3.8L V6) and the stereo has the cassette player. I have a chance to get a CD player stereo for next to nothing. My question is....there's no issue with swapping stereo head units between Windstars, right?

What I mean is the stereo isn't coded to a particular vehicle so a stereo from another Windstar should work in my wife's Windstar???

Thanks.

Not that I know of. The stereo doesn't have any special computerized functions. The connectors might be different, but I doubt it. You can just look at the connector on the radio and be able to tell the difference.

Re: Changing Stereo?

You will know the answer in a short time! I just pulled mine to replace the blend door and I made sure to buy the "U" shaped tools for about $5 to pull the radio. It comes right out and you can look at the connections. I ahve nver read where different models use different amps, etc. so I would ge the radio and go for it. Again, it will take you less than a half hour to know whether it will work or not. Good luck.

Re: Changing Stereo?

Thanks Guys.

That's what I thought....I figured I'd check anyways. I don't have a heated garage and it's pretty cold out this time of year. I didn't want to fiddle with the radio on 2 different vans just to find out I couldn't swap them. Good thing I kept my homemade radio removal tool that I used last summer when I replaced that all too famous blend door motor.
