Good mild cam for a 350

I'm not seeing as much power as i thought i would after the 305 to 350 swap. I'm not really sure why..it is only the LM1 but its the truck version so it should be making a good amount of power, and yet i seem to have trouble spinning the wheels. So i'm thinking of putting in a mild cam to wake the thing up.

Another question, would going from a computer advance HEI distributor to a mechanical advance give me a power gain at all?

your 350cu engine no way has 250HP. more like 160-170 hp.

the 305 had about 130hp. this is why your not seeing a huge power increase , but still much improved over the 305 .

to get 250 hp you would need some engine work .replace the carb with fuel injection .

Yeah i knew that, forgot to change that in my signature. At the time i read the specs from the wrong 350. But you say 160-170? All i can say is here are the specs the guy gave me when i bought it on craigslist. BUT i just noticed something when i searched the specs myself (http://www.newgmengines.com/10067353.html), it says the base HP for this motor is 195 but its CAPABLE of "around" 250. So i guess the guy stretched the truth a little! I just checked my timing and for some reason it was a bit low around 5...and i'm in Maine now so maybe the elevation would affect the power since the timing was set in MA. I just advanced the timing i could spin the tires again so i'm happy for now.

GM long block part # 10067353 (I paid over $1200 and it fits all GM's from 1969 to 1986.)

Edelbrock carburetor #1406
Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold #2101) and are installed onto motor. I paid over $350 for these."

if your engine has 250hp that caprice would be burning up the tires very easy. with 100 more HP........it would be a huge increase ...

Thats true so i'm probably making 190hp "best". But back to my original question, what would be a good mild cam to use with this engine if/when i decide to go ahead with that?

Get in touch with Comp Cams and tell them what you are trying to accomplish, they will be able to make some suggestions on cam selection.

If you really want to wake up that sleeper, change the rear end gears to 3:55 or 3:73 and you will not have any trouble smoking the tires..

Thank you! Yes, i've been told to change up the gearing...but like i said i don't want to ruin my "cruisability" especially since ill be making long commutes from Maine to Mass a lot more. Just trying to run these ideas through my head first. I won't be making any big changes until the summer anyway.

If you have an overdrive trans (700R4 or 200R4) that should not be much of an issue.
