Re: 98 taurus no start.

Were you using a multimeter or test light to check for voltage to the fuse block? If using a multimeter, the input impedance is so high that you could have a loose or corroded connection between the battery terminal and where you were measuring and still read what appears to be a good voltage. However, the current would be limited to the extent where it would not be able to power anything. Did you try the same measurement, then turn the headlights on and see if the voltage changes? If so, I'd suspect an issue with the connections. If not, then you probably have a fuse or fusible link that is open somewhere.

Re: 98 taurus no start.

thanks for the help. i found it.

you know any thing about the abs system. when you brake you can feel and here the abs modual / motor, buzz. no light yet. All the wheel sensors work according to my task master, i bleed the brake system and the abs system twice. not dont have the bleed option on my scan tool. i did notice that the brake switch doesnt say on when brakes pressest, but tails do light up.

Re: 98 taurus no start.

Care to share what you found to be the electrical issue?

As for the ABS issue, does your scan tool allow you to monitor the individual wheel speed sensors? You might have a sensor that is reporting 0 mph sooner than the others, or showing an irregular speed due to a cracked or dirty tone ring. Depending on the severity, the module may not be picking it up as an issue and toggling a code.

Re: 98 taurus no start.

it monitors them all, they where all one mph from each other. but i noticed when sitting still it reads 2mph. i 97 tied it on my taurus and it reads 0mph when sitting still.

Re: 98 taurus no start.

Are you referring to the tire's aspect ratio? If so, what is the tire width? If the width is also different the tire height could be close enough to not be the cause of the ABS.

From post #5 am I to understand that you also have a 1997 Taurus and, when monitoring that car, at a stop your tool reads 0 mph on all four wheels, but on your '98 all four wheels show 2 mph when stopped?

Re: 98 taurus no start.

yea thats correct

The 98 has 205 60 15 in the front and 205 65 15 in the rear. I tested the brake light switch and it has ohms and the harnes has 12v coming out of it.

Is there another switch on the peddal that tells the computer when the brakes are pressed. the reason im asking is when my scan tools hooked up to it and i press the brake it still doesnt reconise the peddal is pressed.

sorry for the late reply its been a crazy last few days

Re: 98 taurus no start.

The brake pedal position switch for the ABS has a light green/red wire (feed) and a red/light green wire (to ABS control module). This switch closes when the brake pedal is pressed. This is the same brake pedal position switch that is used for the brake lights and cruise control. There is another switch at the brake pedal that is a redundant switch to disengage the cruise control upon further pressing of the brake pedal if the first switch fails. This switch is fed from the same supply (red/light green) but goes to the cruise control servo as a tan/orange wire.

Re: 98 taurus no start.

No, the brake pedal switch for the cruise is out of circuit for the ABS system. I don't think the brake pedal position switch for the brake lights and ABS would be the cause of the issue you describe either.

You have enough inconsistencies in what the Task Master is telling you that I'm not sure I'd put a lot of faith in it, even though it seems to work fine on the '97.
