Exclamation 02 Grand Caravan Heating and Cooling problem

Hey guys. I have an issue with my 02 Grand Caravan 3.3.. the a/c has been working fine. My wife turned the heater on today and she said the van made some sort of noise. Then when the air coming into the cabin started getting hot she smelled what seemed to be a "hot" smell, like something overheating really bad. I checked under the hood and couldn't see anything wrong, but the smell was really strong on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Now the air won't work. The a/c compressor kicks on but nothing's getting cool at all, like it's stuck in heater mode and the smell is there regardless of temp selection or mode. I don't really know what to check out so I really need some help. I appreciate it!

Was the smell electrical, metalic, chemical, or rubber? Can you still control all the modes and functions on the climate control panel less the A/C?

Re: 02 Grand Caravan Heating and Cooling problem

The smell had a " hot metal " scent to it, which lead me to think it's the a/c clutch locking up. with the noise it made and the a/c not getting cold. The sound is a rubbing type noise, like metal against metal. Everything else on the panel works fine. It only happens when the a/c is turned on
