Belt squeal?

I changed the serpentine belt on my '99 4.0L and ever since whenever I turn on the AC it will squeal for a second or two. I have played with various tensions, to no avail. Anybody know why?

Re: Belt squeal?

Three things come immediately to mind:

1) Once I routed the belt incorrectly; it worked fine but squealed so check the routing.

2) The auto parts store might have given you the wrong belt; a couple inches too long and you'll have the squeal issue.

3) Check for any contamination on the belt or pulleys; even a little bit of coolant can make it slip.
