It's a FRAT...

and it's GAY as Ellen DeGeneres!!!!

Crap, I freaking HATE "Greek Life". Wow, we're all soooooo impressed that you paid to have friends!!! Oooooh! Break me off a piece of that! I don't need to put money into an organization to feel special. I have a personality that I EARN my friends with. And I really don't care what you say, but a "fraternity" is a frat no matter which way the dice fall. "But that's just so... stereotypical. We're not like that"... MY ASS. Half your talk comes from your lil frat fundraisers/drinking binges. TRUST ME, you don't hear it as much as someone "from the outside". "But if you were in a sorority, you'd see it differently, too"... If I wanted to buy my friends, I'd want to talk about my well-spent earnings, too.

YOU'RE NOT ANYTHING SPECIAL. It's something created by the High School people to feel "holier than thou" when they got into college and realized that they were SHIT. "But you're in clubs". Yes, I am in the ski and snowboard club because I ski. I was in the International Honor Society in High School because I scored well in my foreign language classes. You're in a frat b/c you like to... Frat? Try, no.

I think I am done venting now... but beware, if one of us "normal college kids" is downgraded or ignored again b/c we didn't buy our friends I might just go off again.

If I read this right, you have a huge problem with fraternaties, but not a problem with sororities?

No, I think it's all a load of crap. I just happen to be in a fight with someone who thinks that his FRATERNITY is a higher order of human, and that it's not a "frat". The only good substitute name for a member of a sorority is "sorostitute". :o Trust me, I live on a floor with 8/9ths sorority girls...

I totally understand what you're saying. It does amaze me that these people can party almost nonstop. The Frat guys and Sorotity girls do tend to think they're better than everyone else, but I know a few who aren't like that and are really cool. FRATERNITY+SORORITY=SLUTS & BITCHES
LOL

Sorry that you think they are a whole load of crap. Like any other oranization, you have your good and bad. Because they paid to be in an organization has no bearing on if they "paid" for friends etc. I didn't think it was whole lot different then paying for a membership to any other organization. NRA, IEEE, JCs etc.

btw The word is Fraternity not Frat. Do you shorten the word Country in mixed company? :finger:

Those were some damn good points Yogs! I've never looked at it from that perspective, and your "brothers" can also be your foot in the door for a job after graduating. I've now looked at it in a while new way.

I'm in a Frat and I can understand what people are saying. Actually now 3 years in and I don't live there or talk to barely anyone in it. There not my brothers but people who I'm now forced to tolerate. I did it all for the partying and sorority sluts. I've lost interest in that too now.

I have no idea what your all on about.I'm assuming it's about some kind of paid club membership? In the college/uni campuses of Australia, we have clubs (of which I'm a member of 2),but nothing like this.

First: The NRA members pay to be a part of something that signifies they all have a *hobby* in common. My ignorance keeps me from recognizing the other abbreviations. Like my come-back: Why am I in the ski club? b/c I like to ski, duh. So why are you in a FRAT? Sorry, but unless "fratting" comes to be a word meaning "to act like a holier-than-thou jackass", you don't join a frat b/c you like to frat.

As for your "country" comment, that's a typical frat-boy come-back. Your mother isn't a mo nor is she a moth. Your house isn't a ho, although one might live within depending upon circumstances. It's a frat, get over it already!

May I just add that I used to live in an apartment over-looking a frat and after what I saw going on there......well, lets just say that, if I have kids and they go to college and come home one weekend expressing a desire to join a frat/sorority, a sound beating would be a nice way of explaining my reaction to it.....I would disown them before I allowed them to join one.

I have seen some behaviour, by guys and girls, that left me wondering whether those kids parents had any idea what their kids were doing while 'away at school', they certainly weren't studying much....

Tangie you need to lighten up! You completely missed the humor in the second part of my comment. Its a joke. Sheesh

The NRA is not a bunch of people who have a Hobby. Thats a total miscaracterization of what it is. IEEE is a professional organization, JC are a community based group.

I resent the labeling of "holier-then-thou jackass" comment. If a woman on the ski-club was a total dyke bitch would that characterize all women skiers who were ever in a club as dyke bithces?

As for why I joined, I could get involved in activities that I couldn't do on my own. Lots of IM sporting, winter carnival and homecoming activities that required time and effort that only organizations of at least a couple dozen people would be needed. Those involved would come also from professional organizations, church groups, other on campus clubs like the rock climbers, four wheelers, PFARC and others.
