Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

here's an Aoshima kit of a corolla dx. I'm building this for a local IPMS group build and the topic is old school JDM cars. looks like it was initially designed to be motorized so its a pretty simple kit. this should be nice to get me into the swing of things again. its going to be pretty much OOB except for a suspension drop, 13 inch stretchwalls and possible a lip. The color I picked out for it is a creamy yellow, something like this:

here are some wheel choices. volk mesh, advan dish, work equipt and impuls:

all I have done so far is get rid of the ugly mudguards (which will grind on the ground when you run on 13s anyways)

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

Are you sure that is the right kit for the picture you've got?

He was using that car to describe the color which was chosen for this build.

I'm excited to see what comes of this one. Not many people even BUY these, let alone build them

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

Drift F C, rsxse240 is right, I was referring to the color. the car in the picture is a TA22 1970 Celica which I love as well. I have the hasegawa kit and will eventually build it.

rsxse240, thanks! I'm an old school toyota fan and we actually had one of these (1:1) before in the same creamy yellow. I should have the car in primer by the weekend.

I'm sorry, all I looked at was the pictures and I didn't read the text, a lesson for me. That colour will look good on that car

I like the bread and butter cars if they're done nicely. Yours looks like to be off to a great start. Keep us posted with updates.

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

update! the body is now primed with mr surfacer. I decided to go with aoshima work equipt painted in alclad.

nope that won't be the ride height either, just testing the wheels.

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

drift F.C, yup it definitely won't be that low. there is no suspension in that pic and I was simply testing the wheels to see if they look good. looks like a good fit

Unusual subject. This will be interesting. I think it would look a lot cleaner if you removed the side trim body mouldings.

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

bigbertha, was thinking about that but saw some pictures with the mouldings and they looked pretty good. the body has been painted as well so no turning back

update time!

I decided to go with a darker yellow, the pale yellow was too close to primer yellow for my taste

testing the wheels with the new color

just out of the spray booth after 3 coats of clear (1st coat done the night before and sanded down. next 2 coats done 20 minutes apart)

tonight I work on the suspension together with the te27's suspension.

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

I used to own a first production model of the TE27 which was fitted with four round headlamps instead and this one should be the facelifted one, can't wait to see more updates!

Re: Aoshima Corolla 1600GT

@simas17, thanks!

@512bb, ahh I actually like the look of the four round headlights and chrome bumpers better too much trouble to convert this though. I may give that a try if I get another corolla kit. I'm working on the suspension tonight so I should have more pics and updates by tomorrow.
