Tamiya Rubbing Compound - a confession.

Yo guys,

I thought I used my nr. 1000 for a confession.

Although I've always been very sceptical about Tamiya Rubbing Compound, I picked up a tube later this afternoon in the local hobby shop (Broux for the Belgians ) and was too curious so I immediately gave it a go on a Fujimi's AMG SLK on which I'm currently working.

It takes off a bit of the paint surface but the result is just stunning! Paint is a self made metallic light blue and I sanded it down because of some light orange peel. Well, there are still some minor scratches, but I guess next time I'm not going to sand but use the compound immediately. Finished off with Tamiya Wax! :licker:

I hope to get it finished this week, so I can take some pics with my friend's digicam. Well this forum has learned this old fox a lesson! Thanks guys

Guido.
ps. When I'm at 2000 I'll confess using primer

I dont think their should be scratches, the compound takes off the scratches right? I read in the FAQ that you should sand a little if you have some orange peel, than use the compound. Am i wrong?

No you're not wrong, It does take off the vast majority of the scratches, but for a perfectionist nutter like me, I can still see some, but I'm afraid to take it any further, so... From a distance (30cm) it looks very good, only when I put my nose on it, I can see them

Like I said, unfortunately not. The guys around here know I don't have a digicam, so when it's finished I take to my friend and take some pictures there with his. So be a bit patient and you see them turning up here

I just tried compound on my first model and I end up with swirly scratches. Very tiny but you can probably see it clearly from even a foot away against the right light. What am I doing wrong?

I sanded it before compound with 1500 paper (highest I have) is this the cause? Should I go higher?

Did you have to sand?
If there was no orange peel in the paint it would only have need a rubbing.
You really needed to go higher with the paper(2000+)

Yeah I kinda did Pman, I can't believe how much of a literal dust magnet things are- something I found out when I started spraying. Dust lands on my car every 5 seconds no matter how much I blow and brush off first. Maybe next time I'll just sand off the tiny bits of offending specks instead of the whole car body. As for my current project, I'll re-spray and sand with higher grit papers thanks.
