WIP: Falken Skyline GT-R

I recently scored this kit on eBay for 99 cents! Looks like a really nice older Tamiya kit, lots of details. Thought I would work on this at the same time as my SC430 and FW13B. Hopefully I finish at least one of them! I haven't decided yet whether to do the race or street version. All the green parts are decals and it seems rather daunting.

Anyways, here is the box:

One of my favorite parts to work on is the engine, so I am happy that this kit includes one. Engine is painted with Tamiya acrylics and I also added some BMF on the valve cover. Engine is also lightly weathered with Tamiya set D.

Chassis has been primed and now awaits a coat of white. I will update when more progress has been made.

Re: WIP: Falken Skyline GT-R

I bout a different but similar kit, the Axia Grp A.
Just curious what color this kit is molded in and I assume the body is the same. You have to but out and glue in the front bumper ducts????
Great buy for 99 cents haha, mine was $13 with another $14 delivery lol..

Re: WIP: Falken Skyline GT-R

The body is molded in french blue (TS-10). I was thinking of spraying the green parts but the instructions require you to mix that color and I don't have an airbrush. I don't understand your question: "You have to but out and glue in the front bumper ducts????"

And shipping was only $6 for me, so a total of $7 for a great Tamiya kit.

Re: WIP: Falken Skyline GT-R

Hahaha sorry it was a typo
You have to CUT out and glue in the front bumper ducts????
The small square ducts above the space for the intercooler... to make it a Nismo front bumper.
This so far is my only dislike with the Tamiya kit vs Fujimi... The fujimi kit already has these molded on the body and they look "cleaner" to me due to this.

Yes I think so. I haven't gotten to that yet and I don't have the instruction with me so I can't say for sure.

Anyways, I hand brushed the struts, put in the engine, and weathered the chassis. It didn't look right to me to have the bottom of the car all white.

more to come soon, working on the cockpit right now.

Re: WIP: Falken Skyline GT-R

Wow.. weathering looks great!
What did you use?

Interesting... It came with the stock GTR exhaust? Mine came with one that exits out the side of the car..

Re: WIP: Falken Skyline GT-R

I used tamiya weathering set D. mostly the "oil leak" color, and a little bit of burnt orange.

the kit is basically stock. it comes with a racing seat and a regular one, and has instructions to convert it into the street car.
