Cleaning a turbo.
I just picked up a turbo off a Starion. While I am waiting for some other parts to get in, I wanted to clean this turbo up some. It seems to have alot of carbon buildup, dirt, etc. on it. When I pull it apart to inspect everything, is it okay to clean everything off? If it's okay to do that, is there anything I should not do to prevent any types of damage?

definetly don't let any dirt get inside. My friend caped his up and used a dremel to lightly "sand" the outter housing, looks like new. As for the inside, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If its just the housings its not a big deal, you can remove and clean 'em but store the cartridge in a zip-lock bag or something, don't get crud on/in it. After you get the turbo hooked up run the drain line to a bucket and just crank over the engine so dust/dirt will come out and you can tell if theres any obstructions in the turbo. hope this helps

what tools machines do you need to make the adapter plate yourself? also where can you get the metal for the adapter plate, i don't know since the metal is pretty thick(1/2")
