me vs. mustang

ok. i have a 4banger civic yes. no major mods. but some. read about them: here

so today i'm driving with rick to my friend jerry's house. i see my friend dave's mustang (8cyl) and he was 2-3 cars up from me. he took the next right down the street i was going to take. as i get over the hill i see him lighting up the tires. so i get behind him and like 4 people are in his car and waved arms to say pass him. so i get next to him and i see my other friend mike driving. he drives a lot better than dave. i really was not in the race mood seeing as how i have 10psi in my left rear tires, my car is smashed in the front, someone keyed the right side, and i have a nasty exhaust leak. all need to be fixed come spring time.

so we get to the next intersection and he stays stopped at the stop sign. him and the other kids in the car point down to 'factoy road' a shitty litte race road that we use. not really fun imo because its not too long. so he says go down there. i really didnt want to race still with my beat ass car but i went down there just for the hell of it. dave and the other kid got out at the beginning. and we drove to the other end. rick got out of my car and billy got out of dave's car. it was just me in my car and mike in dave's car.

bill came over to my window and was like... are you gonna try? because he knew i didn't really want to. i says we'll see. i dunno yet. he gets in the middle and flags us to go and whatnot.

we both lost a little traction at the start but i was amazed how little my tires spun. (woo hoo stage 4 clutch!) and i was off... i was a hood length ahead of him and i shifted to second and chirped the tires a little. it was wierd how i really didnt concentrate as much as i should have. and my music was still on and shit. i was very not in the race state of mind. but i shifted to second and i'm still a hood ahead. and he shifted to second also and we were dead even. i chirped third and we were still dead even until he shifted into third and the road sort of has a really small bend in it i felt like he was getting really close to the right side of my car so i let off the gas and called the race over by putting my hazards on. he kept going.

funny thing was that we really didn't set a finish line. but i was done when i got the danger feeling of his car being really close and afterwords everyone said that he was inches away.

all in all i don't think we went much faster than 65 - 70 but it was very close and i expected to get smoked because he has an 8 cyl mustang and i never usually race from a stop. i'm into rolling starts... like pulling up to an import on the highway and then starting. but whatever. dragging feels very stressful to the car. poor thing screams at 6800rpm. (when i chose to shift)

so maybe he would have beat me in the long run, but technically i have to have the better shit if my 4cyl kept up so close the whole time.

what you guys think??? i'm excited

if i found someone keying my car i'd beat him up or provoke him say it was self defense and get him to pay for the damages

anyway 10psi ? ? ? shit i think you need some air 30 psi is normal for tires isn't it ?

nice race you mite have beaten him if you switched your stereo off and concentrated but that wouldn't be as fun to tell

My favorite all time winter clip is this hill in Chicago I think it is... and they had gotten an ice storm and people knew it was gonna be slick yet go anyways. Anyone that has ever driven on ice knows that once you start going you arent going to recover till you hit solid ground again... well you see these cars one by one start to creep down... lock up their brakes... slide down the hill and pile into each other at the bottom... not major collisions just like 10mph bumper to bumper stuff... its funny cause like 5 or 6 people do it... then you see one guy who almost starts to go, sees the cars and uses his head and finds another road (probably slid down it and hit someone anyways... but still) its just so funny

I can laugh about it cause I put a $35,000 Infiniti I30t into a ditch and didnt cause any damage thank god! Oh boy do I miss that car

Well, I'm from Chicago originally and now live in the suburb sitting right on top of it. Snow=no. Winter driving is horrible. I've been spoiled for the past few months since I'm in Tallahassee, FL. There hasnt been any winter-worthy weather. It was 80 degrees a week ago. Then it got "cold" (lows in the upper 30s) for four days. Now its about 65.

The bad part is, I dont have a car down here. I have to go and get it on spring break and drive it down. That means I'll have to drive through all that crappy Chicago March weather. You would think March is supposed to be the warm-up period, but it truly is not. It's consistently cold and snowy in March. A few years ago, there was a blizzard on my sister's birthday (March 12).

Chicago is a screw job for about 4 months of the year.

Sorry. Had to vent my wrath.

Nice race BTW!!!
