If Heller Can Do This...Wht Not Tamiya?
I just got a Heller 2002 Peugeot 206 Safari car. Can't explain why I did except to say it was $18 and it was a version I havn't seen from Tamiya before.
Anyhow...looking through the parts I noticed something that impressed me, the rear wing...it's the correct, and accurate, shape. Sure the little fins on top are "a bit" on the thick side, but it's the correct frickin shape...if Heller can do this, why can't Tamiya do it too. Now don't get me wrong...it's not an awsome kit...roll cage seems tobe missing parts, interior is bit simplified and the front wheels aren't steerable...but it's not bad, and doesn't need as much work as their Citroen kit.

Thanks for the info Asmenoth, good to know Heller can get it right, where Tamiya didn't want to bother. How is the kit with respect to the rest of the changes i.e. dash, rollcage (what's there), fueltank?

Well, the fuel tank is the same style that comes in the Tamiya kits and the roll cage only has three parts...the sides and rear. I will post pics in the afternoon after I run a friend of mine to the airport. Any requests?

Here's a couple of pics of the box and some parts.

Re: If Heller Can Do This...Wht Not Tamiya?
That rear wing does look good, a bit of thining of the slats and it would probably be better than the resin Renaissance version. Think I'll have to pick one of those up if I ever get the chance. Do the wheels look any good? Does it have any extra underside reinforcement?
What are you plans for the kit Asmenoth? Build it OOB or kitbash it with a Tamiya 206? |

Actually Phil, if you get the Studio27 P/E set for the 2002 Pug, you could totally remove the slats on the wing and replace them with the P/E pieces provided in the set.
How do the decals look Asmenoth? Have you set this kit aside a Tamiya Pug to compare them dimensionally? |

I could thin them or I still have half a Studio 27 photo etch kit with the parts for correcting the wing and use those. The wheels are nice, I will post pics later. They are two piece rims...one half snaps onto the hub and then you put on the tire and attach the other half. The tires are like revell tire, all five attached to a "rubber" sprew with some flash that needs trimming. Good tred pattern though.
As for what I'm going to do with it....havn't thought that far yet. Got too many projects ahead of it at the moment.

The decals look good. When I go to take pics of the wheels, I will do the same with decals and see how it measures up to the Tamiya Pug.

Here are some pics of the wheels, tires, a comparison to a Tamiya Pug and a shot of the decals. The car looks tobe the same dimensions of the Tamiya kit with the exception of the bonnet vents (which look a bit small) and the front fog light covers (a bit taller and round at the top instead of angular).
Oh yeah...the little "scoops" near the washer...squirter things are my fault. Didn't realize I had put them on facing the wrong way until after I had painted it and started to decal the body. *doh!*

Re: If Heller Can Do This...Wht Not Tamiya?
Thanks for the pics Asmenoth. Looks like that kit will indeed be very useful for spare parts.
