84 cutlass NEED HELP PLZ!!!!!
i just bought a 1984 cutlass supreme...i havent been able to check what kind of engine it is but the guy who sold it to me saidit was a v8
theres alot of stuff thats wrong with this car and i was hoping you guys had some good advice 1. the car squeals when its driving, and when breaking short distances (like driving a few feet, then breaking) the car jolts...at long distance stopping its good...i assume this is the breaks 2. my brother said the exhaust might be messed up because this car is STINKY!!! god damn! 3. the front light and grill is missing, i dont kno if the wiring is still there...do i just buy a new light and install it? 4. where can i buy good accessories for this car, like new plush seats and stuff 5. the main part of the key is stuck in the ignition..so you just need to turn the silver part to turn the car on, how can i get this fixed? 6. last night i went to start the car and it would rev up but never start...it was cold and rainy so maybe that had something to do with it. my friend said i might have flooded to engine and to start it i gotta push the accel down while starting it..is this good idea? thanks for any help |

A little help.
Well if the guy said it's a V8 and it's an '84 more than likely it's the 308.
As for the squeeling and jolting. That could be a number of thing from the rotor being jacked up to a siezed caliper. The squeeling might possibly be even just a dust cover rubbing the rotor. If the smell is that bad on the inside of the car it's probably the exhaust manifold, I had the same problem with my 86 Supreme. It's not a hard job just time consuming. If the wiring is still there then yeah just buy the headlight and install it. If the wiring isn't there you are gonna have some fun re-wiring that. As for buying big stuff like seats my opinion is check out junk yards in the southwestern states and see if they will ship them. You can get away alot cheaper that way than buying them brand new. Now the key being stuck is probably gonna be your easiest repair just replace the ignition module. Most of the time when someone snaps a key off in it they turn to junk anyways so best to just replace it. Well yeah sometimes it's a good idea to tap the accelerator to get the car started. I'm assuming being an '84 it's still carborated and not fuel injected. It's probably got the Quadrajet right? If it does the first thing you will want to check with all the other problems is the fuel filter on the front of the carb. But word to the wise be careful the threads on that carb are notorious for stripping out. So be very catious you don't cross thread it when putting a new one in. Well I hope this helped you out a little. |

im so pissed that the car wont even start....i tried to start it again and it wouldnt work....i opened the engine bay and started the car and all the parts were working, the rotor thing was spinning and allt he belts were rotating but it would never catch and run...as soon as i let go of the ignition key it just died
its raining hard out and i cant go check the engine bay....the car is sitting out in the rain rusting...i couldnt have been a bigger dumbass in buying this car right before all this rain hit haha i cant believe i bought this peice of shit for 400, it was running fine when i bought it i love the powerful v8 the engien bay is pretty fucked up though...its really dirty, theres no engine coolant and theres dust and dirt on everything...i have no idea where to start...my friends dad who is a mechanic is going to come check it out thanks for your help and i appreciate any more |
