I had a similar problem..
I'm not sure of the 97' but the 94' seat heat switch is right there where you were climbing / resting on the outside bottom switch area of the seat. Mine shorted out to the frame when a "big boy" sat in it. A bit of bugging and rework and it solved the problem. I think it was too old or damaged or risky to let it still power so I pigtailed off the heat part and replaced the fuse.
