I was using a bunch of photos of dirty WRC cars as reference and so was attempting to recreate that effect. It does look different from a normal passenger car driving through some mud. In fact, the fluid dynamics of mud are extraordinarily stochastic. And an almost infinite variety of patterns of sprays, smears, and accumulations is possible.
