The double post cable will get loose and build up some corrosion. The corrosion will eat into the cables and even if you get the connector clean, the cables will have excessive resistance.
I replace the cables, spacer and bolt and use a good battery sealer to prevent further problems.
Also it is important to properly torque the battery bolt to the proper specification, overtightening the bolt can deform the lead battery post and cause the cable to loosen.
