thats a bit harsh. its simply a case of australia making a product which would be successfully marketable in the USA and the yanks wanting a piece of the action. it had nothing to do with a merger.
the americans had nothing to do with the development of the holden monaro except for the buick l67 supercharged engine (which holden modified to have strengthened internals and an eaton m90 supercharger on it) and the ls1 chevrolet engine.

the holden monaro (correct spelling) is a coupe edition of the popular family/performance car we have in australia called the holden commodore. the pontiac gto is only different to the monaro as far as its bumpers, its tail lights and headlights, its lhd instead of rhd, and the alloy rims that were available. beautiful cars those.
