Personally I think those intakes are just a great way to give someone else a great deal of your money for not much in return. The major bottle neck in the intake track of the engine is the 90deg bend to connect the air intake to the throttle body; none of the aftermarket kits eliminate that bend (physically impossible because the hood line is low and the engine is mounted high.) I've always wondered why no one has invented an intake mounted to the hood...sort of like a shaker hood used back in the 60's and 70's.
If you really wat to put something other than the stock unit in place, you can easily make your own....do some googling on the subject befor you drop 300 in coin. I made one using a 3 inch diameter peice of exhaust tubing (available at AutoZone, etc) and a K&N cone filter.....cost about $100 and that's only because the K&N was so expensive. In the end, I removed it because it: A) seemed to provide no "seat of the pants" improvement in anything (acceleration, gas mileage) and B) because it made the already loud engine even louder.
