nice decision! mines primer. hehe. anyways i dont remember what sandpaper we used but i dont think you want to take it down to the metal. it was just a fat ass roll of circular pads of sand paper that my friend got from the shop where his dad works. they stick onto the end of a air powered rotary tool and thats how we did it took forever. i had black paint but it was fucked up in hella spots so we just primered it. and basically it looks gray when you sand it enough. like really scratched up but not metal. we hit metal in a few spots on the hood which had been repainted like 9 times. that took forever to go through all those coats. and you want to get the expensive primer the cheap stuff only lasts like 9 months. its called catalyzed primer i think is what you want.
