T25 to 14B conversion
Hey all. My car is in my sig and I was thinking about making the jump up to a 14B. I had a few questions though I was hoping some experienced DSMers could help me out with.
1) What do I need to get to do the conversion? I know I'd need the turbo and I've read about the return and oil lines. What else would I need? Also what tools do you need to do the job?
2) Can anyone point me to a good write-up of the procedure? I'm planning on doing the job myself and have little to no experience working on cars. I did the BOV, UICP, and FIPK on my own for my car but I figure this will be more of a process and its something will help me better understand my car in the end.
3) The reason for the conversion is that today my dad was following me home from the mechanic and he noticed that whenever I'd accelerate hard and shift, there would be a small cloud of blue smoke out my exhaust pipe. When I was changing my intake pipe, I dug into the stock turbo and felt the shaft jiggle a bit so I'm guessing that my T25 is on its way out (141k miles). I know there are a lot more factors that play into this question but should replacing the turbo be something I make a priority or do I have some time (months, years) before anything will blow up?
Thanks for any help you can offer. I need my car to last for a few more years and want to catch any problems before they become disasters.
