I have been using the 120 V rope lights on my van every christmas for 5 years, I mounted them under the van behind the little lip at the bottom of the door jamb. they can be hooked end to end to form a long string up to about 50' then add another string, I had over 200' on my van with 4 plugs running inside to a inverter. I also decorated the outside with standard mini christmas lights along with a blinking christmas tree on the grille. All total I had over 6000 lights and all of this was for the kids benifit, I got escorted around the malls with my son dressed up as santa and he threw out and passed out candy for the kids.

BTW in almost every state neon is illegal, you are only allowed to use white or amber on the front 1/2 of the car and red or amber on the rear half..... All neon is illegal if you can see the light directly, many state laws include those lighted license frames too.
