hemi is short for hemispherical, which is the shape of the cylinder head on hemi engines

and whoever told you that H in H22 or H23 stands for hemi deserves a medal for even getting you to think it was true. haha.

H is just the label honda chose for that engine line. just like the B series. you now, the B16's, B18's, etc. honda also has D, F and K.

there was a 2.3L engine, known as the H23. and it was non-vtec.
