First Time at Test and Tune

This was my very first time running my car and getting an offical time slip. My local drag strip (Bradenton Motorsports Park) has this thing called "test and tune" every Tuesday and Saturday morning. Me and 2 of my buddies deside to go out and run our cars. My friend Bryant just got a new car (94 Del Sol SOHC version) and wanted to run it, and my other friend Mike wanted to run his car cuz he has never ran it before (02 Civic Si). Here are some of the pics I took... enjoy :D

gotta love the track! what did you and that chevelle run? that is a very cool matchup because i have owned a chevelle (454 ss malibu w/ 4 speed manual) and now i own a 4g4d. (i couldn't afford the gas on the chevelle so i had to sell it.)

Last one... Here are my friends racing each other... I think my friend Mike (02 Civic Si) won this one. He cannot driver for shit! His best run was a 16.9 with his all stock 02 Civic Si.

It was close between me and that Chevelle. I dont know what he ran though. He got me off the line, then I slowly gained back on him till we were almost even. I had about a fenders length on him, but as I shifted from 3rd to 5th he got me. It was real close. After we ran, the owner walked up to me and wanted to know what I had in "that little Honda". :D

I wish it was that easy. I have a JDM tranny, and I dont have the slightest idea on how to rebuild it. Moppie gave me a little help, basically saying that I am better of looking for a used JDM cable tranny. It is sooooo hard to find a S1 tranny, let alone one for a decent price. I honestly dont know what to do about my tranny situation. Would I be better off getting a hydro tranny and just doing the conversion from cable to hydro? What do I do????? If anyone has rebuilt there JDM cable tranny, please help me out. I dont know what to do... :(

P.S. I know I could use a 90-93 Integra LS tranny, but the gears are WAY too long... worst comes to worst, I might just have to resort doing this. :(

definetly dont think about going to hydro tranny... A LOT of work is involved in this conversion

try searching some classified ads and you might come across a y1 or ys1 tranny

hondaclassfieds.com is a good place to start

good luck!

thats a high reaction time isnt it?

Yeah, it is a high RT, but it has nothing to do with the final result of a test & tune. The 1/4 time (ET) only starts counting when your tires break the light. RT's ONLY matter in bracket racing... .500 is "perfect"...our track gives like a $20 gift certificate to dudes that get a .500 RT when bracket racing.

A tip to improve your RT's tho, if you do ever race....go on the last orange (the one before the green) - the time it takes you to react to the last orange should get your foot moving, the clutch out, and the car moving as the green comes on...it will help your RT's..this tip came from my step-dad, who used to bore out VW motors and run 15's and shit in the 60's (stock 36HP  )

Your 60' time is a little slow...which means you may be spending a bit of time spinning tires instead of them hooking up at take off...there is a fine line between bogging down and sitting there at the line spinning. Unless you have sticky tires, this will always be a problem...Another thing I have read is that if you are using street tires...don't bother to heat them up (burnout) before your run...this only crazes radial tires and makes them worse when you take off.

Good job dude :), considering you have no 4th gear. :(

Yeah, I got pretty good wheel spin, and I was using my friends brand new (not even 10 miles on them) Yokahoma tires that he got off the internet. They grip pretty well (when I am not spinning them). I usually launch at anywhere between 2000 RPM and 3000 RPM.

I NEVER go through the water box. I have heard that it does no good to go through it and burnout on street tires, like you said.

My friends and I are going to go to "test and tune" this comming up Saturday morning. If I get any better times, I will post them for ya guys.

Sweet....yeah..i roll around the water box too....I had some really hard-ass Michelin's on my car when I ran at the track. I had to get my baseline on the stock DX tho..18.078 @ 74 ! ! :D

Nice of your buddy to let you tear up his new tires. I have Yokohama Avid T-4's on my car now, and I really like 'em. I need some shitty tires tho to tear up when I get the ZC installed, broken in and go to the track again.

find a 92-93 GSR trans its VERY similar to the Y1 or S1 tranny of the B16 (sir) check it out you can find them pretty cheep at a wrecking yard (came off a B17a and its cable) my buddie used those tranny's for his B20 swap cuz they are cheep and guess what HONDA stocks parts for them :) no more searching for jdm parts that dont exhist in the states :D well good luck with that 4th gear
