Check out www.1fastrex.com

There's a "detailing" section that tells how to use Simple Green to clean the engine bay. I've followed those instructions with great results. The first time you do it takes a long time, but every time after only takes a little while if you keep up on it.

The only think I did different was to use a wire brush to loosen up all the caked-on grit when I did it the first time.

civicHBsi91
04-19-2003, 09:14 PM
yea i know what it does but theres a rubber piece under the hood and it looks like it would block off alot of that air so i said what the hell and it gave it a deeper sound than before so i stuck with it

that intake piece is the factory cold air intake.

good job.

for a ghetto short ram, just replace your factory filter with a K&N drop in replacemetn and cut the bottom of the airbox off so it gets loads of flow.

Dude that tube isn't a cold air intake, it's right near the header, cold air near the header? I think not. It serves no real purpose, I mean how much air can it get when its behind the closed hood.

maybe its like boost? get some hot dense air mixed in with the colder air and give u a tiny bit more power?

Ok, lets just settle on that the stock intake is gay unless its ghetto rigged with a k&n drop in like 91civicdxdude said.

Thanks for the nice comments. I say its good from a far and far from good. I'm almost out of debt for the zc and have big plans for paint/body work (will be done next spring). WW kit, ZC carbon fiber hood, new windsheild and all window trim.

1fastrex.com is exactly were i got the how to from. I followed the exact steps they used and it worked great (except for that whole armor all stuff it didn't really help). oh ya, it takes tons of time. I don't think mine was cleaned ever so I prolly spent a good 5-6 hours over two day cleaning it and I still have tons of junk in the real hard to reach spots.

And yes I know i am the only one with the 'snorkle' but hey everyone that looks at it asks what the hell it is:)

look at the routing of the tube. it comes from the intake, down by the resonator, and then up. it is supposed to get fresh air from the crack in the hood and around the bumper trim piece.

dont ask me why they didnt route it differnt, i didnt design the cars. but thats what its supposed to be.

so true, i reckon its just to take up space... so that the engine bay doesnt look as empty up front!!

I've cleaned and painted up my engine bay and fitted a new custom intake.., i'll post pics asap

I kept my full stock intake cause my ebay generic short ram isnt carb numbered. Soon my stock header will join it, cause the new one im getting isnt carb numbered either. My buddy can get the carb stickers from aem for free so he said hed hook me up :D

just took my "snorkle" off today, it does sound a little louder! its pretty kewl but i'm keepin it for emissions purposes

I took out the snorkle, the rubber joint, and the resonator box, got a little more pull at the top end from it, plus it sounds nice. i also took out the metal piece inside the DPFI box, now the thing sounds real rough at idle hehe.

i doubt it will make you fail emissions if you have it off

I had to fix my radiator this weekend so I had to take that piece off to get the radiator out, and I just left it off.....I also took the heat shield off my exhaust manifold cause it was so rusted only 1 of the bolts was actually holding it on.

I did that to my car this weekend too, the one on the front was fine but i took it off ne ways when i did the head job, then the back on started rattling cuz 2 bolts were broken, annoying as hell, got off the other bolt and pulled it out hehe, now it looks better and sounds better (cuz no more rattles hehe)

I gave up trying to get the back one off after I beat the shit out of my knuckles on the radiator when my wrench kept slipping off.....one of the bolts was rusted on and I couldnt get a good angle to get much power to get it off.....when I get a new header eventually its all comin off so I'm not worried about it
