hello my friend is looking at getting a Chevy S-10 in the future and Im wondering what model he should get. I dont know much about chevy's or anything like that as i am very much in to honda tuning, so can you help me out? I believe the Xtreme version is the fastest am I right? Other then that what are the models? Like isnt there a V6 version and stuff? Can you list the HP and name of each model and also what model you suggest? He is look at ones no more then $$5-6 grand in price. THANKS alot!

yes they do make an Xtreme S-10 and i think that is the fastest but it is also one of the newest ones so good luck finding one that's in good shape for that price. otherwise id go with a 94-95 SS. they have about the same HP and i think they had a 350 V-8. but the new GMC Sonoma (that sells for $45,000:eek: ) has a Corvette 427 V-8 in it!!! but obviously, its tuned by Linginfelter. anyway, go with the Xtreme, but if you cant find one, then try and find an SS.

The Xtreme is nothing more then a nice looking body kit, some fancy wheels, and a lowered S-10/Blazer. The V6 is not any different from your standard S-10 V6. The fastest Chevy S-series truck would be the S-10 SS. But the fastest Sonoma/S-10 was GMC's Syclone.

the typhoon was like a blazer. a small SUV from the early 90's. but it was the fastest suv of its type. kinda funny because the typhoon and the syclone used to beat the Corvette off the line before they tuned them down.:(

gmc did make the typhoons very fst but good luck finding one as for the x treme it is only the body kit that makes it different than the regular four cylinder model. It is probbably one of the slowest s-10s Any way you look at it the truck will not be anything unless it has a small block.

I was going to put in a 327 but the 383 is bigger, and more powerfull!:bigthumb: But like ur friend wants, stock :loser: i would go with a syclone or a typhoon, not an ss, not as fast! he might have to shell out a little more, but its def. worth it! I might be even getting one of these, i love older S-series!!!!!

1. what size rear end are u running?
2. what posi unit do u have?
3. what gear ratio?
4. how did u run your exhaust from the header back?
5. what transmission are you using?
6. what driveshaft are you using?
7. where did u buy your harness to get the speedo and guages to work?

dude, i dunno who you're tryin to kid. my dad worked at GM when these things came out and he said when he was out at the proving grounds, the Syclones and Typhoons beat the VETTES off the line so they tuned them down cause they were beating America's fastest, mass-produced 2 seater sports car off the line. not a very fast truck huh?:thefinger

I am unsure who you are directing your comment to, but from all of the posts that I have read that you have posted lead me to believe that you are very young, inexperienced and even more ignorant of the whole s-series community and even more ignorant about the chevy community. I have been a certified chevrolet mechanic for over 20 years and worked on chevrolets for even longer. If you want me to get all of the statistica on the vettes, cyclones, typhoons, and my truck tuned and un tuned, I can. But as far as detuning the sy/ty's well they also detuned the vettes. If you have any of these vehicles tuned properly tou can pull alot more out of them than stock. For example, I know a lightening w/ $300 worth of bolt ons and a good tuning and it will beat a new viper in a quarter mile. Have fun learning about vehicles, but I think that you need to spent less time making problems and starting fights with people and get in the garage and start tuning wrenches and learn a little.

haha. i forgot about tht. wow was i clueless. i didnt know much about cars when i posted that. but i got better. i now know the stock S-10 SS has a 4.3L (262ci) enhanced Vortec V6. that only pumps out 195hp. well, either way, i wouldnt mind having one. but, i gues i have a Saturn SC1 now and im stuck trying to find tuning stuff for it that's not ricey. anyways,to get back on topic. i probably dont know as much as you do because im younger. but i wont use it as an excuse. ok i dont know if im making sense, so im just gonna go.

7.7's 0-60, 15's in the 1/4, with mods, 14's 1/4, 6's 0-60.
I do admire those trucks. CPI is such a great power maker, but a few problems. :|
If I remember, with the governor removed, they could do 130mph.

I have a 02 xtreme and actaully the xtreme is the fastest s-10 model hint the airdam and aerodynamics while it is the same engine it has a more agressive stance to it also saving money on buying a body kit the smart thing to do instead of buying a syclone with 100k miles on it would to be buy a used s-10 xtreme and supercharge it (intercooled :biggrin: ) run you about $4,250 then you would have to buy headers and prolly some exhaust and a chip to take the govener off you would haul ass past the lighting, syclone, sommona. If you bought a 99 or 98 one thats been crashed you could buy it for about 6-7k with some looking around

the ss was and is the fastest stock s 10 gmc made the typhoon and syclone the my 98 ss runs a 15.4 in houston with flows and some home mods xtremes suck stock they are slow and everything else is slow to stock that is but the ss comes with posi a high output 4.3 and some other extras xtremes run probibly high 16s to 17s fastest ive ever seen them the X has nothing on a SS nothing

u still have an xtreme and it sucks they make them ne way u want it like wataburger v6 4 cylinder ne color they suck ss 3 colors all v6s all better than xtremes and the ss has a high output v6 and they only made 1324 of my 98 making it rare which ur x is not and it sucks and you body kit shit makes it slower i dont know what ss u raced but come race me fuc ker ill tear u a new ass hole and i can shift at 5500 and get the same shift u do with less error

Roflmao @ insidiousSS Dude, how old are you? 13? 14? haha I beat a 98 ss with flows and intake in my stock busted ass bout to die n/a fc3s.Ohh and in case you arent sure what an fc3s is.... its an 86-91 rx-7. HAHA I prolly had 100 hp left at that time. I also had the chance to race my friends I/e 5 spd v6 extreme. HE whooped me like a red headed step child on christmas. To say extremes are slow and made like wataburgers or what ever it is is kinda also b.s. . Having worked at a chevrolet dealership Im pretty sure I would know. For the rest of you...i'll give you the lowdown on "THE LAUNCH"
In order of importance:
1. REMOVE CIGARETTE LIGHTER from dash...a boosted launch will shoot the damn thing to the back window with incredible force
2. STRAP IN LAPTOP w/ DATAMASTER PROGRAM...with the seatbelt...it will also try to fly through back window
3. Torque break to about 6psi of boost...this will cause the front end of truck to tilt about 30 degrees (i get the most priceless faces on people i race when they look next to me with my trucks nose pointed upward and the sound of a tornado spooling up underneath the hood...they know they are pretty much done for) :iceslolan
4.GO!!! 425ft/lbs of torque is enough to give you whiplash if u dont keep your head planted to the back of the seat...in a little less than 4 seconds u are up to 60mph and are finally able to counter the G Forces to remove your implanted head from the headrest.

I got a 2003 chevy xtreme with a 4.3L v6 with the zq8 suspension package. It beats everything in my area except a 98 turbo eclipse with a massive amount of mods. My truck is completely stock so far an it still tears up mostly everything. what are some websites on this s10 ss you guys keep talkin about. im not a huge chevy guy, i just bought my truck 2 weeks ago after getting rid of my honda. I've never seen of heard of this ss you's keep sayin about...websites or pics please.....

thanks for the info studballs...it sounds like the ss isnt really all that people say it is. Just a reg. s10 with ss badge(s). Not a high amount of hp but enough not to complain about. actually i raced all of these cars in two days...my friends wanted to see if they could beat my new truck.

well unfortunetly you have the slowest xtreme made with the 4.3 liter...but nothing a little mods wont fix buddy! :naughty:
I would recommend getting a set of 4.10 gears for the rear end, SLP Y Pipe, K&N Generation II intake and a Hypertech Power Programmer.
Those mods right there should put you down to a low 15 second quarter mile with traction which will make your Xtreme beat a hell of a lot more vehicles out there.
The Hypertech Power Programmer is what you will need to get rid of your 97mph cutoff. You will also be able to firm your shifts, raise shift points and recalibrate for different size rear end (highly recommended)
And good job on the kills!!! Keep em comin!

Or get a lighting that costs 32,000.00 and runs high 13's to low 14's stock and has bad handling and gets about 10 miles to the gallon. It does come with cool altezza taillights though. :rofl:
