Well lets see here...unless you are supercharged, nitrous or turboed you ARENT beating a well driven SRT4, let alone whooping it. :screwy:
They run low 14's stock! And unless you have i believe the 5.3 liter 2wd with 3.73 rear end which is capable of a mid 15 second quarter mile then he is the one that will do the whooping, and pretty damn good too.
So basically you raced someone who cant drive his new car for shit cause if you would have raced him from a dead stop up to lets say 95mph with a good driver he would of put a few buslenghts on ya.
Find one at the track to race...I bet you wont come tell us the outcome :smokin:

guess it just wasnt his night...I'll race him again. we talked afterwards admiring each others vehicles. i guess it kinda made him feel better when I popped up my hood and had a whipple sittin there. As far as gears go...pretty sure I have the 3.42's. The truck was converted from a V6 to V8 and the gears remained the same. I figured if the previous owner didn't bother to upgrade to a V8 when he bought the truck, he sure as hell didn't bother to go up to 3.73's. I've actuallly considered puttin in some 3.73's. Just cant get the time to do it. I heard it's a real fun process :grinno:

Well why didnt you tell me you have a whipple :naughty:
Yeah with a supercharger I wouldnt go with anything bigger than 3.73's
You will just need a Hypertech Power Programmer to recalibrate the speedo for the different rear end if that concerns you. Rear end gears really aint hard if you know what you're doing. A shop will usually charge about 200 for install.

Here's the results of my first and only race.
'88 S10, 2.5 4cyl, 5-spd, 2WD, short-bed (dry weight : 2695 lbs.)
150,600 miles
I estimated 19.1 seconds @ 61mph
First run = 19.009 @ 68.5mph
reac.time= 1.254
60 feet = 2.419
1/8 ET = 11.933 @ 57.18
I raced against a late-80's Mustang GT slightly modified.
The S10 did a good "uni-burn" on the wet patch.
Reaction time was bad b/c I had to blip one more time before letting go.
Truck hooked up very well, and I wasted the 5.0 out of the box even tho he had better reac.time of 1.180. 60ft.time for the Mustang = 2.881
the dude just wasn't very good at rowing his 5spd. I held him off until I had to shift into 3rd and then he blew me away...16.1 @ 89.99.
I was very surprised with the launch of the S10. My truck has 15" Cragar chromies with 235/60's on the rears.
Note : I heard an ominous "pop" leaving the line and deduced that it was rear end hop since there was no wheelspin...now I think it's time for some new U-joints (hehehe)

stock sucks just buy a good looking s-10 with a blown motor and put in a small block. i spent 100$ for the truck and 2000$ for the motor and it hasn't been beat yet. i put a 406 sb in it with a turbo350 trans shift kit and all. i havent taken it to the strip yet but mabye in the spring. i put a set of drags on the back and it will still excessively lite the tires up. you cant beat the speed for the price

alrighty then...first of all just want to say I am new to this forum but not to others so I know how these retarded fights get! Its freakin dumb if you ask me (which you didn't) coz I'm the guy that actually wonders and likes to figure things out and doesnt mind asking questions...By the way, I am 17 but and at the same time human. Please just be respectfull. Its cool to goof guys but damn, dont hate, ha!
Alright, What I got...
99 S10 Xtreme
reg. cab & reg. bed was white but is now Silver (actually quite nice)
2.2L 4-cyl with nothing more than K&N and some woopty-doo Platinum plugs!
Oh yes, and some fancy red dragon floor mats, damn they nice ;)
Alright, dont mean to single any one person out but this goes out to Studballs coz he seems like the only serious one out here..
Alright dudes, I'm not dumb so u dont have to talk baby to me alright, lol. Just fill me in, Im a real good listener. By the way, like I said im 17 and currently about to start a very nice job so...dont just make me a dream, give me something to work with, lets kick-it!

Welcome to the board Necka-D
Ok first off what are your goals with your new Xtreme? Do you want you're truck to be quick and hang with the 4.3's or do you wanna be fast and be able to smoke one? :smokin:
Write back and tell me what you have in mind and I'll help you build one hell of a 2.2 liter :naughty:
As far as the appearence of the Xtreme here is my ideal setup for looks...very simple but will turn heads every time.
Goodmark cowl induction hood, SS bowtie, Belltech 3 inch drop springs in front, 3 inch lowering blocks in rear, GM rollpan(if fleetside), and mirrors off a 98 and lower S10 painted to match truck... about 800 dollars total including having the parts painted isnt bad at all. Just stay away from the altezza taillights :nono: ...stock lights look far better

ah yes, i did forget to mention my goal(s) eh...ok well, the body was my first priority so thanks for the input on that coz $800 isnt bad at all for all that...
But of corse power is moving, literally ;)
So, with that in mind, I plan on working on this myself and with my dad. We both understand how these things work fairly well. Mechanically speaking...
Just not sure whats out their as far as the best bang for the buck. Does that make sense? :D
Being able to have aprox. the same HP and torque as the 4.3L would be very nice, so if yuh get a chance shoot some of that knowledge this way...

BTW, when i said me and my dad have a fair amount of knowledge about this i meant that we'd be a lot better off with bolt-ons,lol. We like to stay away from tearing the motor completely down, ex. cams, rods, pistons...that junk..yah thats a little far fetched...
Just so you dont go WhOa on me :)
I honestly didnt know about those typhoons, damn, thats freakin awesome dude...id say its a kepper!

anyway you go the s-10 is the best small sized truck to modify. it all depends on what your looking to do. the v-8 is always the easyest and cheapest, but with a supercharger or turbo charger, exhaust and a nice ignition the 4.3 can be put close to 300 horse, and of corse you can get real extreme and shove a ls1 under the hood and it can be done using all stock gm parts. you just need to think what you will use the truck for and how much you want to spend, but deffinetly two thumbs up to your friend for choosing the s-10.
p.s. the syclone with its 300 bhp was the fastest production sonoma, but chevy made a v-8 powered s-10 extended cab dually, but never produced it for public sale, but if you turbo a new s-10 or sonoma you have an updated syclone with out the all wheel drive.

Studballs! sup? I think you need some help wit dese f'n posers.
From inside this forum, lets get sum things straight...
All you losers that have S10's/15's are idiots if you think dey are fast.
Any Sy/Ty will destroy any other truck EXCEPT a last gen Lightning.
In fact, Sy/Ty will destroy almost any car on the street...think about it,
AWD (not 4x4!), massively tourqey turbo 4.3, long gear auto...just mash and go. At my favorite drag strip (Kil-Kare Speedway, Xenia, Ohio), on any given Thursday night Test-n-Tune, I get to see a certain Syclone with less than $1k in mods pull under 11 (usually closer to 10.5s) EVERY TIME. I see numerous Lightnings getting similar times with slicks. No S!) I have never seen trucks that fast except for those crazy rednecks with big-blocks in their little trucks. Sy/Ty's have some of the fastest 60ft. times on the whole grid. And the SS vs. Xtreme...don't you morons see they are exactly the same truck? HELLO!!! The Xtreme was simply the evolution of the SS because people wanted options. Personally, I believe the Xtreme is better because it looks cooler and YOU CAN GET IT ANY WAY YOU WANT!!!
If you think I don't know what I'm talking about, don't try me...
I drive an 88 S10 2.5FI ( "Iron Duke") 5spd., and I guarantee it is the SLOWEST truck represented in this forum...so HA!!! I lose every time.
We can win this war, Studballs!
:banghead: All the lightnings suck ass period a 5.9 R/T dakota will eat them for breakfast. sy is the fastest no question though I pulled the engine from a totalled ty upgraded to a turbonetics t-3 with a little bit of extra effort and pull 13.47 in an 86 mazda b2000 need a better intercooler and hopfully I'll get high 12's

LOL, ok there tough guy, just chill it out a bit....first off if your going for looks then paint it, red is ultra gay on trucks.....and what exactly did studballs say about your truck that was bad? he gave you some vaild advice on how to go faster! Anybody can drop a V8 into an S-10, been there done that, (and so has everyone else out there) He simply wanted to see some proof of your bad ass truck being so fast....and he wanted to see a picture of it (probly thought you had a cool truck). Your ridiculous, calling him a girlie and such, you know what? i can easily put something down as my signature that say's "2001 s-10 with a blown 350 corvette motor and 22 inch american racing wheels and dual stainless exhaust" really doesn't mean i have it....so if someone called my bluff i would likely just send them a picture of it and leave it at that....calling someone girlie and gay just makes you look like a person caught in a lie, not to mention gay yourself. Can't wait to hear your witty remarks on that....i can imagine i'm now gay and girlie too...i guess i better tell my girlfriend, she might like to know that!

guys the fastest s10 isnt the extreme. i would know, my cousin and i both have s10 stock. his 96' extreme aint nothin against my 91', and hes got a 5 speed against my automatic. but i would admit the s10s are a bit week and need help in the hp dept. but all in all its still an awesome ride and there is no debate about that. but i do have one ?. why hasnt gm done anything with the colorado/canyon? there isnt a tubo or supercharged version availible to the public or even in the desisn works. only the extreme and its the same truck. any where i can find info about this, would be greatly appreciated.:)

I had a 99 xtreme with a 4cyl and I wrecked it, then I found a 2000 model Regular cab with a V6 and a 5 speed I took all of the suspension and the wheels off the xtreme and made an ss out of it the 2000 also has the super rare 3rd shock option (transverse to control axel movement). I only have 1 problem the Govenor shuts it down at 3500 in 5th or 95 mph in 4th :banghead: I know this thing is good for at least 145 or so. All the power progamers say they can't kill the Gov on a 5 spd truck. Any tips would be usefull. Also I want to ask is the steering box on the xtreme tighter ratio cause the box seems to be a little looser on the 2000 truck. Also is the steering box on the xtreme a faster ratio cause it seems the box on the 2000 is a little slugish when compared, maybe its the extra weight or the fact it sits a little higher.

Hypertech Programmer will bump the limiter to 128mph, auto or manual.
The Xtreme also uses the ZQ8 steering box which is a tighter ratio than the non-Xtreme/ZQ8 suspended trucks.
