Has anyone experienced a failure of the trunk release button (above hood release)? If so, were you able to fix it and how? My remote hood release works fine. The key works fine to open the hood too. It's the release button in the dash that is not functioning.

According to the schematic diagram, the rear deck release button is just a momentary switch. When pressed it connects ground with the Rear Deck Release Input circuit on the Body Control Module. I have a 2000LS but never experienced a problem with the swicth. However it would appear that you could easily test for a defective swicth by providing a momentary jumper accross the switch terminals and see if the trunk opens, If it does, you will know its the switch. if not, either the ground wire (black with white stripe) is disconnected from its ground source (test for continuity to ground), or the other switch wire going to the BCM is broken or disconnected. The BCM itself could be at fault.
