2000 Windstar Front Wipers Wiring Diagram

Thanks for the autozone links. they are right out of a Ford service manual and couldn't be better.

The recall mentions the ruining of a "switch inside the motor" which appears to be the park/run switch. This switch probably follows a cam and is used to determine if the wipers are parked. If not parked, then this switch information is used to run motor until switch is in park setting.

If the switch failed in the parked position, the wipers would never park since they electrically appear to be parked.

How this would effect the intermittent problem, I can't see at this point.

What is bad is that there is at least one electronic black box involved.

I have got this type of problem about a month ago and it was not related with the Ford Recall. Before doing any attempt to connect or disconnect something in the wiper motor you could look at the following. In the battery junction box ( left driver side close to the battery) you have many relays inside. 3 are related to the wiper system, 1 for the rear and 2 for the front.
One relay is the "front wiper on/off relay and the other one is the 'front wiper high/low relay. This one was defect on my Windstar and the replacement has fixed my problem that was similar to yours. At least 5 relays has the same part number in this fuse/relay box so you can make a try in removing another relay and try at place of "front wiper hight/low relay" Just pay attention for not breaking the good relay when you will remove it because the plastic case is easy to break. My van is a 2001 model so probably similar to your 2000 model. Look in your owner manual and look at the relay # 209 (assuming that 2000 model is identical to the 2001. If it does'nt fix the problem replace the relay #202 ( the "on/off swith relay)
These relays are available from Ford but also from aftermarket stores like Autovalue where you can ask for Standard brand part #RY 612 or RY612T
(less than $10) (wiper relay) You may also think to get a spare one as the fuel pump is using the same part number relay and this one can fail soon or later.
As I told my year model is a 2001 but probably similar to yours. I have Ford wiring diagrams book as a guide.

When you had the bad hi/lo relay, did you have the continuous low speed working?

I don't think I mentioned this but I DID fry the system when I started up with lots of snow on windshield and wipers in intermittent setting. I jumped out and tried to free them - because turning them off puts them in park mode so now they were stuck in park.

By the time I reached them, the power to the wipers was already shutdown.

I had this happen before at least once or twice and after a cool down, they recovered. This time that never happened.

I am looking forward to trying the relay switch. Boy they are in there pretty good - I guess I have to pull them out carefully with pliers.
