Okay, I have a '95 Windstar, 3.8 Litre engine, 218,000 miles.
I stopped at the store on way to work the other day, went to start van and it turned over like normal for a revolution or 2 then changed sound like it had no compression. Tried it a couple minutes later same thing. Tried it the third time it fired up like normal. I drove it the rest of the way to work 6 miles. After I shut it off, I tried it again and it fired right up. Later at 11 pm when I was leaving it acted up again, but this time it will not start. I towed it to the house 55 miles and did:
compression check- okay
spark- looks fine
I'm getting fuel to the rail but haven't done a pressure check yet, but would this make the pitch of the engine change? It honestly goes from sounding like it will fire right up to sounding like all the plugs are pulled.
The fuel pump sounds like its working-at least I can hear it.
I bought this van with 120000 miles so i'm not sure if pump was ever changed out.
Any suggestions on what to look at?
Thank You,
Kevin
