The McLaren F1 Picture Request Thread

astonmartindbs001
01-27-2010, 03:41 AM
Hello again. Three months ago, I lost my entire collection of McLaren F1 pictures and digital media from my PC hard drive due to a massive viral attack. Miraculously, the only file that survived was my XP1LM one. Right now I'm in the process of trying to restore my collection in a new form, which as you can imagine is not an easy task at all. Therefore I would like to politely ask for help from the huge F1 community here in restoring my files for the following F1s which are my favourites:-

F1 LM XP1LM (even though the file survived intact, more pictures are always welcome).
F1 LM LM2 and LM3. Also LM1, LM4 and LM5 if they're at all possible.
F1s #073 and #018, the two EHDF-LM2 fitted Road Cars.
Other HDF-kitted F1 Road Cars, in particular #020, #069, #072, #014, and #011.
F1 GTRs #01R, #013R, #05R, #06R, and #010R.
Standard F1 Road Cars XP5, XP3, #009, other Dark Gunmetal Silver cars, and #040.

I know, I know, that's a BIG list, and I'm really not expecting the whole world to suddenly become my oyster. However, if you guys can share any pictures and other digital media that you have of the above-mentioned F1s, or links to the material, I would be extremely appreciative and thankful for your assistance.

Of course, no good deed goes unrewarded, so if anyone else would like to make their own picture requests for certain F1s, please feel welcome to do so here. Despite the currently still being restored state of my own collection, I will do everything I can to help others out too.

To start this thread off with a bang, here are what I consider to be the best pictures of the F1s I mentioned in the list above. Since these are just from my restored collection, most are not high-res or anything special, but I chose them either because they show the F1 being driven and used as it should be, present a new angle on the car, or show an aspect of life and history around it, or also simply because they're the best of what I have right now.

He may have neglected to mention that after much pleading on his part I bundled up all my pics of XP1LM for him and hosted them via ZIP file.

So if anyone was thinking about assisting with that specific portion of his collection restoration, I've already taken care of it. :)

Two high resolution scan results, it worked quite well I think.
These are from those Vauhdin Maailma magazines, croped images.
Now there is large images allready, I dare to continue like that way.

Yes indeed, a very big thanks to Peloton25 for sending me his entire XP1LM file. More pictures of it and all other F1s are always welcome however, and I'll be happy with whatever you guys want to send me.

Thanks in advance for the help Greg, and also thank you Sami for the wonderful F1 GTR Longtail pics.

Searching my self made McLaren F1 Memorabilia binder and thought that could these images be someone here not so often seen?
These have been printed out from Internet around 1995-199?, and some of them have been cutted of some magazines. The quality is not so good but hope that's not a big problem.
Hope there was atleast one new image someone! :)

Lol, all those pics are new to me, Sami. Thanks a lot again.

Now I don't know if this is new to any of you, but I just found this in, all of places, one of the Facebook McLaren F1 fan pages:-

http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad83/atmclf1lm/NFSUCF1LM/McLaren%20F1/233.jpg

It's F1 LM #LM3, blasting up the highway amongst a convoy of other Turner Motorsport cars and quickly filling the mirrors of this BMW E46. You can even see Frank's modified Mini Cooper S coming up near the back of the convoy. Not very big, but unique nonetheless, and new to me.

I got exited the feedback of those 1997 Vauhdin Maailma project, so this morning I tryed to continue this.
These aren't from that magazine so these images belongs here, I think.
1997 Season FIA GT croped images from my McLaren F1 self made Memorabilia binder, which I made when I was around 15-17 years an old.

Anyway, the quality is quite OK smaller ones have a bit noise, but I think that's not the main thing these images. Hope you like these.
And like the others one also, these are allmoust full sized because Aston's huge set of images are too.
The big versions can be found my Blog site. (http://kuvablogi.com/blog/1949/102/1/)
I know the smaller images would be easier, but I don't want upload these at the Imageshack, hope you'll understand.

Difficult say where and which chassis this is. The rearwing tells it could be Monza or other fast track.
No red mirrows, no racing numbers. Anyone ideas?
This is from Helsinki Thunder race guide magazine.

Like this one also, same page.

I think this might be from SPA or Monza, most likely SPA.
http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/prev/img2446123.jpg

No ideas where this can be taken.
http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/prev/img2446125.jpg

Ah, Monza. The OLD Monza!
And notise, no race numbers! Might be connected same case where those two first images have been taken?!
http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/prev/img2446126.jpg

And again! But now I think the Monza race weekend, #8 clearly seen.

These next two are from Helsinki, 99% sure. #21R.

Sami,

great work again! Keep them coming!

I would say the following of the origins of the images:

1-2 (trio): Monza pre-season '97 testing (21R)
3: Spa '97 (Kemmel straight, braking for Les Combes) (26R)
4: Hockenheim '97 (21R)
5: Monza pre-season '97 testing (21R)
6: Hockenheim '97 (car has not much of aero development on it in this photo and also Mugello was the only race in Italy during FIA GT '97) (21R)
7-8: Helsinki '97 (21R)
9: Hockenheim '97 (21R)
10: Le Mans '97 pre-qualifying (24R)
11: Monza pre-season '97 testing (21R)

OK, so one thing again got clear about those two images, no racing numbers images.
I have allways wondered, what is the story behind that image. Yesturday evening I startet to reliaze that it must be some kind of pre-thing when searched the binder and wondered it.
And now you Martin and Doc told that; all came quite clear. I got flashback, he images were seen on the magazines begining of the season or before it. Like the race-quide which I got from the racetrack back then. Yep. Fantastic!
:runaround:

And I also "secretaly" hoped to get right chassis numbers and there they are, thanks Doc again. Very much appreciate!:lol2:

Unfortunately I haven't anymore these, but like I wroted the FIA GT 1997 Thread; I'm searching those magazines 95-97, so now just have to keep on waiting.

Hi everyone, I lost a picture I had of the McLaren gold foiled hood. It was detached from the car and it was standing upright on a wooden crate with the gold foil facing the viewer. Does anyone have it? If so, would you mind sharing it? I would love to get it back. It had great detail and looked pretty cool detached from the car. Thanks.

You guys are good!!! Thanks to both of you. To answer your question Peloton, I was not sure if it was from the GTR or the road car, I just remembered the picture. The one I was asking about was in fact the one sitting on top of whatever it's sitting on, so you hit it right on the head. Thanks for that extra one being held up, I never saw that one before, so that was a bonus for me. I appreciate you guys.

On a separate note, I put up a post on the thread about the test car bonnet that was on ebay. The post about it had year 2009, but what I would like to know is was the auction itself in 2009 or was it a much earlier auction that someone just recently decided to talk about. The reason I wondered is because I can't believe it got past me, I never saw it. Does anyone remember what country the auction was in?

Looks like a ginormous roll of bubble wrap that its sitting on there. Road cars don't have those tubes to feed air to the rear brakes like you'll find on the GTRs/LMs.

I think our man Patrick took the photo you had not seen before, so all thanks to him on that. :)

I saw the question about the XP2 bonnet cover, but don't recall the details and so that's why I did not answer. I'd look for Greg to tackle that one in the morning if he can recall, or you might want to PM 'D34DP4N' as he should obviously know.

I suspect if it was on Ebay and you missed it that its likely it was a 'UK only' auction.

It certainly was on the UK ebay site as I followed it very closely until it did not sell. it was latter bought directly from the vendor by one of the posters on this site, apologies my memory on names is dire.

Thanks Patrick for that picture, good one, glad to have it.

As for the test car bonnet, I'm amazed it slip past me, I wonder if ebay sometimes fails to bring every item up when searching because I look in the UK enough not to miss an item when it comes up, strange and dissapointing.

Hey, sorry I wasn't able to help with this one, but it's the first time I've seen such pics of the F1's gold foil-lined hood sections separated from the car. They're fantastic!

Hmm found this from Finish Car forum; Over Drive Forum (http://www.overdrive.fi/forum/viewtopic.php?t=102287&start=1155).

So we decided to leave at 7:30am to get a good start.

On the way there we were followed by an orange sports car which when it overtook I saw was a McLaren F1 LM (only 6 of these were made).

It disappeared but a few miles later we caught it up as it was slowing and turning off the road. So we followed it into a ranch. As we both stopped, a guy jumped out and asked us to leave but we told him it was rare to see a car like this, even in the UK and as we were from the UK and that I had a friend with an F1 could we have a chat. When he heard that I knew someone in Europe with one the owner stepped out of the car and started chatting. It was Ralph Lauren. We had a great chat and I told him that I had worked on some of his cars in the UK. He was very interested in our trip and said that his wife would never let him take 5 months off work!

He showed us some of his cars, another McLaren F1, a Porsche GT, Ferrari F40, Ferrari Daytona Spyder, a RUF Porsche and a matt black VW Camper!

I just found these uber-high-res images of F1 GTR #010R while trawling through Flickr, and they're definitely desktop-worthy in my opinion. I hope they can be considered new to at least some of you.

Am wondering if anyone has this press pic of XPLM (?) in extra-high res, or a similar pic (GTR, F1 HDK) in highres? Am working on a F1 vector project and the current pic of 1024x768 is pitifully inadequate with regards to finer details... :uhoh:

McLaren have this version available from their new website. Not significantly larger, but certainly more clear in the detail department:

That's the best version I've ever seen of the shot.

Is there something particular in that picture or wouldn't the other images of XP1LM or other LMs be of any help? What are the details you're looking for?

There are lots of other images of XP1LM and LM3 floating around and recently Martin put up a lot of XP1LM images available for download; links are here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=598631&page=2

I don't know if the older images of LM3 are still available in hi-res, but at least I downloaded most of them few years back as Frank still had it, so if needed I could try to put some of them somewhere for download. All of them would require more than 250 MB space - too much to handle at once.

As mentioned, i'm actually working on a vector of the F1 LM, and am pretty keen on doing it in that specific angle (with the door up ).

Anyhow, i'll look through the other pics and see if there are better alternatives

Brain a little fuzzy as this is going back nearly a decade, but looking at my folder from the Christie's Auction for #011 it appears I made the 1000x667 version of that image from the original which was 750x500. I don't believe anything larger would exist in the public domain and attempting to make that image any larger will further reduce its quality.
