95 windstar intermittent speedometer

I have a windstar with a digital dash, when you first start to drive it the speedo will work then you will look down it will show zero, then go back on to the speed you are doing. it will do it about 3 times and then not do it again all day. has anybody ever had this happen to them?

I would suspect a connection is loose somewhere in the speedo circuit, or at this point more likely could be a vehicle speed sensor going out. Its old if its original.

Curious, what type of gas mileage you getting in your 95 these days? Is it a 3.8L?
