Hello everyone. I joined up to find out a little about the wifes 04 Impala LS. I just noticed her drivers side axle seal is leaking where the front axle hooks in. I did a search for the seal replacement procedure but came up empty. Is it a dealer repair only or is it rare to have one leaking? I replaced the front hub bearing on that side awhile back and saw it was wet looking then, but now it is worse. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dealer or good repair shop or transmission shop should be able to do it.
Or you could DIY it and save some bucks.
The front axel has to come out to get to it.
How many miles and what transmission.
Some do leak after a lot of miles.
Or some times depending on transmission the valve body cover gaskets leaks or comes lose.
Make sure it is axel seal and also check for a lot of side play in axel stub.
Has axel ever been replaced?

Well the car has 107K, I would have to research what tranny, but it's an 04 Impala. The axle has never been replaced. It looks for sure to be the seal at the axle. I will check for play on the axle stub while the axle is out . Thanks for the reply.

You are welcome.
Watch the fluid level untill you get it fixed.
Also may be a good time to change the transmission filter with seal replacement.
Good luck with it.
Let us know how it goes.
