How did I ever get that black crap off the valve cover? Airplain stripper? Nope... Scrub Scrub Scrub, sand, sand ;)
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/733189IMAGE0007.JPG.JPG
This will be the color of the valve cover and exetera... Its a duplicolor ceramic/hi temp engine paint. I liked the color and it will match my engine bay :)
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/834560IMAGE0008.JPG.JPG
This is were the adjustable cam gears will be... I cut out part of the "Shroud" so I can get at them and still have a timing belt cover.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/482240IMAGE0010.JPG.JPG
This is my DC header that I spent 12+ hours port matching... the ports are a little larger than the ports on my head to creat a "Scavenging" effect, as you can see I also gound out the material into each exaust tube quite a way... I didnt want exiting exaust to just "Roll" over a smooth edge, I wanted it to flow and scavenge as well.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/702737IMAGE0011.JPG.JPG
So, thats all you get for now... I'll get some more pics when the valve cover is done or the block gets back from the shop... Hope you enjoyed

When I got out to the shop and saw they were dry I ran/skipped into my house @ mach 1 to grab the digi cam, then I remembered the batteries were dead so I mashe to the store, then i remembered that my digi cam takes ass pics @ night so i had to hook up my 4way flood lights (As you can see it did the trick) you can see in the header pic my camera is kinda :alien2:

Actualy the cover is there to keep your timing belt from sliping off... That why I left enough on there to keep it covered. As far as things hiting it/them the only thing over there is wires, which I will make sure to keep out the way :)

How long did it take you to sand down the valve cover that good? Do you wanna do mine for me? :D
Kunundrum
04-09-2003, 10:32 PM
i got the black stuff off my valve cover with automotive grade paint stripper (let it sit for 10 mins) then I sanded the inperfections off the cover, Cleaned it with simple Green and baked it in the oven for 10 mins at 250deg to dry it completely. once completely dry ( and still hot) i sprayed the hi temp Primer on it... it dried as it hit the cover and made a nice smooth coat. then I use Hi temp Colour paint and put 3 thin layers at 1 hour intervals.
turned out great and only took me bout 1 hour of actual work with it spread out over 4 hours.

For a bazillion dollars I will do it again! LOL! Actualy I pussed out about 3/4 of the way and sand blasted it... Im about to stick it in a giant pot of bioling water right now... If it turns out all good I'll do it again for like $75 + shiping.

The entire engine? About another 2/4 months I am guestimating... I dont like to rush things, and anything worth doing is worth taking the Time to do it right, ESPECIALY engines, ESPECIALY honda engines... They are so damn annoying if they arent built right the first ime, got to take everything appart to get to X and fix it.

Well I just put the first coat on the valve cover and let me just say its looking SWEEET! I will now be offering valve cover services, sand blast and "Hot tank" (Hot tank is basicaly boiling the cover in my giant presure cooker to remove ALL sand particles, this works verry well) This service will completly clean all the stock paint off of the cover and you will get it back looking like the pic on the first page $75.00 pluss shiping. For $100.00 + pluss shiping I will clean tank and paint it as well, you must provide additional funds for specified paint/powder coating. If you are interested please email me @ [email protected] Title of email should be VALVE COVER. Ty ;)

Why? Its an assload of work, most people dont have the tools that i have at my disopsal, and it takes for fucking ever... I used 4 layers of primer on the timing belt cover and 5 layers of paint, note there is not ONE run in the entire paint job... The valve cover just got its 3rd coat, I make sure to put on a verry light amount each time so there are NO runs.
A new valve cover will run you (Aftermarket) around $200 + , you may be able to find one for like $150 or so thats a knockoff.
If you pay me to do it you will have something orriginal, pluss I can match you exact car color (if you figure out what it is, you would also have to pay for the paint) Shit, a hot tank alone will cost you $50, I dont sopose you have a presure cooker pot thats bigger than a dohc valve cover?
I think my price is verry reasonable actualy :)

YAY! I got my clutchmasters 8lb flywheel in my lap! Larry also took the time to scratch "HI" into it as well :flash: But Im ballancing it so it doesent mater anyway. Oh yea, thought it was $285, but it was only $235

Despite being overjoyed with my new flywheel, I am now PISSED! I just went out and looked at my valve cover, it WAS buitifull! All nice and clean and not a single run, then I look and I can see in the "CO." of honda motor co. that there is no paint in the bottom of the O, so I whip out my can and give the entire thing another shot making sure to hit the bottom of the O... Bout 45 seconds later my dad walks in and I say "Check out my valve cover, it looks bitchen" He says "Actauly it looks like shit..." Im like huh? I go over and look at it noting there is no sarcasm in his voice and sure as all hell the 3rd coat of paint for some reason descided to curl all the paint under it    Now it looks like :bloated: I am going to have to sand it with some fine sand paper and repaint the whole bitch! Anyone know why this happened?

what kind of paint did u use to paint the cam cover??...and did u just paint over it or did u put something first...anyways nice work:)
seth 90DX/ZC
04-12-2003, 12:39 AM
Um, "cam cover" and valve cover were painted with the same Duplicolor General Motors Blue, the Valve cover did not get any primer as it will be getting HOT, the paint can take 500 degrees and is ceramic based, so i think it would be retarded to put any kinda primer under it that would cause it to flake off. The "Cam cover" or belt cover asd I call it got 4 coats of automotive primer before the spray.
