1998 Windstar ground issue

Hi,

My 1998 Windstar 3.8 engine is having door lock issues. Sometimes none of them will go up or down. Other times they will lock or unlock after multiple pressing of the of the remote or lock button. I am beginning to think this is a ground issue. Does anyone know where the grounds go for the locks and rear windows?

Thanks,

Brian

I'm not sure where the door locks ground but...

You may want to check your negative battery cable ground, mine was causing all kinds of problems. It grounds on the chassis directly from the negative battery terminal and at the transmission.

The parts store wanted an outrageous sum for new battery cables so I made my own.

The Haynes manual should have a diagram for the door lock circuits.

one area to check is the wiring enclosed in the rubber boot which connects the driver's door to the van body. This door gets opened and closed much more than others and the wires can get damaged. Pull the boot back and inspect the wires. If you find frayed ones use some quality electrical tape (not the dollar store junk) and you may solve your problem.

Sorry it has been a while for me to get back. My son has cystic fibrosis and we have been in the hospital once with pneumonia and 2 other times with pneumonia at home.

I just started looking at this issue and I got an IRMC code, I replaced them a year ago. I saw at Autozone that it could be an electrical issue. I tried the neg. battery cable, but the battery has square bolts and I can't get the bolts off. Is their an easy way to do this? I admit I am a VERY beginner with auto repair, money is really tight with medical issues so I am trying to do this stuff at home instead of a garage. Any help would really be appreciated.

Thank you,

Brian
