I HAVE A 2000 Saturn SL2. i recently pulled the motor out to install a rear main oil seal and a timing chain while it was out also. when i put the motor back in and connected everything everything went togethor pretty easy. nothing was pulled on while removing the engine. i made sure everything was connected properly and when i turned the key suddenly i have no spark. i changed the coil, same thing no spark. i have power go to and coming out of the coil and for some reason i cant get any spark from the plugs. ive gone over all the wires and everything seems to be in order, nothing came disconnected, all the plugs are good and nothing in bent over.at this point in time i am at a loss and so is my friend who also owns a saturn SC2 with the same engine. ive checked all the fuses and the relays with nothing found. i just cant find anything or any reason this would be happening:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:: banghead:

check for codes, turning over with no start should leave code. That said over top of your starter should be your crank position sensor make sure plug is on also your coil pack has ign module under it make sure those wires are pluged in. With no codes given to me, thats what I would check. I know you say you were careful but mistakes happen. Good luck

ive went over all the wires ran into connectors and all the grounds on the motor and a few on the trans that i really didnt need to disconnect. everything was plugged in. i checked the crankshaft sensor and its good. we had a haynes manual for a s-series saturn from 91 to 02, and electronics trouble shooting book, and an auto x-ray scan tool. the only code i got was a P0113. which is air temperture circuit high. it was reading the air temperature as -40 degrees. i dont know why. ive tried switching coils with one from a friends car a 98 sc2 and still nothing. it has brand new spark plugs and wires. i tested power to all circuits and the plugs themselves and everything checks out ok. i tested all the fuses, theyre all good.

The IAT and TPS both get a 5V ref voltage from PCM if not there poss pcm. I dont know if you have sohc or dohc. But you say you changed timing chain. I think you would still get spark even if a mistake occured there but not sure. These veh's are funny little animals. There is a website called saturnfans.com you may want to check out. Thats all they talk about there.

I have a feeling your CPS is not plugged in all the way. Or the two ground wires on the back of the engine are not connected.

so i had to go to work today and my friend that was helping me called about a half hour before i left the shop. he told me that somehow when the starter was put on a wire got fed into the threads of the top starter bolt which is a pain in the ass to put in and you cant see it. he pulled the starter off to get a better look at the back of the motor and found it, replaced it, and it fired right up. thanks for the help guys. i also have one more question. even tho i just replaced it, how often should the timing chain be replaced? i heard every 80k miles.

oh and as for the DOHC engines, if a mistake occured while putting the timing chain on, the pistons would come into contact with the valves, and we all know that is a very bad thing. i cant speak for the SOHC engines. ive seen first hand what it does and its not very pretty. the same guy that helped me did that to his engine in his 98 SC2. when i put it on i slowly rotated the motor by hand with a wrench on the crank after everything was installed to be sure nothing was gonna happen.

ok so you have an interference eng you did not state in your post. You sound as though you have all the bases covered so I wish you luck

yes all s-series are interference engines.

If the oil is changed every 3k, and the oil level is kept up, the chain should last the life of the car.

glad you got it started!
