so this is my second tamiya model, the first one was highly modified with lights, sound system, opened hatch, ect, i think this one i will just stick with engine mods to keep her as clean as possible, the paint i want to use i tested on a black xmod civic i had laying around so you can have an idea, here are the pics:

the paint on this model came out a lot better then the last w/no streaks, brush strokes, or rough regions, im very pleased since this is my first time im using an airbrush :)

Very nice. I like the fact that you kept the turbo to a believable size. The paint did turn out quite nice in the engine bay. I will have to keep an eye on this one.

ravan17
08-17-2009, 07:20 PM
thanks man. the turbo in my first build was quite larger, but still up to spec with some real life turbos some supras run, but those are like top end 1400rwhp cars..not the daily car im going for. hoping to get more work in tonite.

and i have no idea why my post went through 4 times??

08-17-2009, 08:19 PM
thanks!
i wasnt too happy with how the intake manifold came out where it connects with the throttle body.. i painted the intake too thick and it took almost 3 days to dry, lol, so thats why it looks a little ruf... next one i make i want to do it out of an aluminum sheet, that way it has a REAL polished looks to it... but thats on the next model thats sitting waiting (its a supra as well ;) ).

ravan17

well i got the fuel rail made and mounted, as well as mounting the fuel pressure regulator, only place where it didnt interfere with the hood is on the fender, but doesnt look too bad. im not going to run the fuel lines untill the engine is mounted onto the chasis. anyways, here you go:

GJ, Ravan .....but I personally dont like that colour.
Body will be the same? Like engine? Brown-red?

right now Im goin to do some work on my bodykit:p

ravan17
08-18-2009, 08:57 AM
yea the more i look at the color the more i dont like it... it was supposed to be a metalic red, but the little testors paint jars i have looked like they sat at the store for ever and all the flakes were stuck to the botom, so i used the paint thinner to get them out... i dont know if i thinned the paint too much and made it change the color like this or what... since the only thing i did so far was just paint the little black panels and mount the fuel pressure regulator i think i might respray it

oh and btw, i think that picture made the color look a lot more brown then it is... its really just a bit on the purple side, not brown.

but i'll keep you updated, i'll mess around with some paints today

ravan17
08-18-2009, 03:04 PM
well here is an update, i decided to not be lazy and repaint the engine bay and engine cover, im GLAD i did. there is a WORLD of a difference. i just had to use lesser metalic flake from the bottom of the glass bottle... for some reason when you empty ALL of the contents from the little testors bottle it turns it a really dull purple metalic... weird.. maybe its just b/c of the cheap paint??

but anyways, but using just a little bit of the flakes i was able to achieve this result:
oh and i added the fuel rail with the look alike fittings as and put the FPR back on:

didn't you shake/mix the paint before you used it?

ravan17
08-18-2009, 08:41 PM
thanks for the compliments guys.

this build should be fairly quick i think... besides doing the custom work on the engine/exhaust the rest of it should be reallyyy quick, not like my first one with lights and everything.

but i am already looking forward to doing the custom street version widebody sard supra, as well as a full drag supra that might resemble one of the big boy supras that everyone sees at the 1/4 mile

DrunkenMonkey, i tried mixing it... it was weird.. i thought i first added too much thinner... but no. the metallic flakes that sit at the bottom have a purple tint to them.. and the way that i got it to look really red above was to only scoop out about 1/4 of the mixture from the bottom.. its weird.. but i guess its what you get with using cheap paint ?

08-19-2009, 09:13 PM
quick update, i just got all of the models taht i will be building (3 of them, all supras :), 2 tamiya and 1 sard, plus the first tamiya supra thats 95% finished)

so now i have a set of wheels for this model b/c i really didnt want to use the stock ones. i will use the sard supra rims with the tamiya tires instead of the slicks:
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7855.jpg

and here is a pic of the 3 current projects *left to right* ( drag race supra, widebody sard street supra, and tuned tamiya street supra)

Hooah, It looks like great family :-)

Please, upload every change on every Supra :)....I like it :-P

And I have Sard Supra too.....I thought that I took wheels from Sard to my new projects, but I didnt like it so I use stock.....

Cant wait for your RED body......hurry up:-P

ravan17
08-20-2009, 10:24 AM
lol thanks man. the model in this thread MIGHT get some paint on a few body panels today for test purposes, maybe the hood, but we will see, i was just so excited to get the widebody started that i put the one away for a few hours, lol

What is this, attack of the Supras?!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with your SARD project.

You and Wishieftrottle are both coming out with some nice Supras but I think I shall have to counter attack with my upcoming JDM trio. Thanks for the kick-up-the-butt motivation

ravan17
08-20-2009, 12:32 PM
lol, about time there is some supras built! ive serached, and everyone of the builds i found were from atleast 3 years ago. lol.

the sard supra is the one getting the most attentino right now, but i'll leave that for a build thread of its own with pictures, wont be AS MUCH work as i thought to swap out the chasis with a tamiya supra, but you'll see.

right now im putting together this car so i can have a rolling chasis hopefully by the end of the day. might even have some parts painted if it doesnt rain

ravan17
08-20-2009, 03:15 PM
ok i finaly got back to working on this model, had to sit the sard aside b/c it has a lot more scratch building to do than this one. I ran most of the lines that are conected to the engine, as well as attached the wastegate, and the dump pipe from the wastegate, you can also see the fuel return line running from the fuel pressure regulator under the cover underneath the car. Oh, and i also added the braided lines with "simulated" fittings that will later connect from the cylinder head to an oil catch can:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7927.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7928.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7931.jpg

the chasis is also coming toghether, the rear end is put together and installed along with the brakes, the calipers have the same metalic paint the engine bay does, im not sure if im going to put the supra logos on them yet or not.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7932.jpg

what do you guys think?? i personally think this one is coming out MUCHH more cleaner and realistic looking than the first one i made :)

ravan17
08-20-2009, 05:33 PM
installed the heat-wrapped downpipe with the O2 sensor in it, as well as the heatshield around the turbo

ravan17
08-20-2009, 07:04 PM
here is another quick update, as you can tell this one is coming together pretty fast ones the engine is complete. I decided to make a custom aluminum radiator using the front face of the one that came with the kit, the back casing is made from actual aluminum :)

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7935.jpg
the radiator cap is already in place, i might paint it later
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7936.jpg

the interior is all put together, the great thing is that i love supras that have the black leather interior which means i dont have to paint ANYTHING inside, it already resembles the actual car almost 100%, just like mine sitting in the garage :)
i did how ever put in some carpet
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7937.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7938.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7939.jpg

i had a day off of work today so i decided to do this all day, lol, but im going back to school starting monday..and engineering is no joke.. so im trying to get as much done now b/c i know ones school starts i wont be able to work on these as much... hopefully i can get some painting started on tthis one tmrw... im thinking about trying out the hood and if it works without having to primer the body i will just paint straight on with the same red metalic paint and call it a day.

what do you guys think?

ravan17
08-21-2009, 06:09 PM
so i dared to test my painting skills (or actually the lack there of :)) today. started with the hood, all i did was just sand it with fine paper and wash it, no primer or anything, stuck a piece a tape so it wouldnt go anywhere, and started painting, suprisingly to me the results are prettttty good considering the fact this is my second time paiting with an airbrush and im not sure how to completly prep the paints yet, but here is the result i got, again, remeber this is no primer, im sure i can make the paint alot smoother if the surface underneath is preped more.

oh, and also, all of this was done in about an hour or so :), i know, next model will be prepped much better and i will do many fine coats instead of 2 or 3 heavy ones :)

but anyways, here are the results:
you cant really tell the metal flake in the hood b/c the sun went down already

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7942.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7948.jpg
and here is the best shot i got with about a 1square foot area of sun in my back yard :)

this one really shows how the paint looks like

so here is a quick update, everything should be in the finishing stages, just got to make the intercooler pipes, intercooler, and connect all that together, plus do the windows and clear coat.

but here is a few pics with the lights in:

Beautiful work man. Especially engine.....niceee.

That colour is nice too:)

But I think U should colored rear wing and mirrors separately from body:)

And what colour did you use in the interior?

BTW: Attack of supras HEHE. My opinion is that supra has great design, many people like it, many people built it :-D

ravan17

the interior isnt painted :)

i didnt paint it b/c it resembles the factory black leather really closely

I just wanted to know, was it fun haveing God help with this one LOL. But really. Nice car!

ravan17
08-28-2009, 10:11 PM
:) im not sure EXACTLY what you meant by that but i think if you mean what i think you meant thanks man! what God helped me with was patience to get the parts made the way they look like the in the pictures. i cannot express how happy i was with how the turbo assembly came out, especially the heat wrap.

on another note, i will definitely do a better job modeling the blue/red fittings next time, these look alright, but could have been made much cleaner.

updates are coming soon hopefully, i just went back to school, and engineering is no joke..so i dont have as much time to model now.

BUT, the good thing about going back to school is that i have access to a machine shop, which has a lathe for me to make custom metal parts on :) and soon i should have access to a 3d plastic printer, so with a little work on CAD i can be making myself some printed plastic parts, i cant wait!!

here is a quick update, since i had a set of wheels i am putting on the sard supra (see my other thread :) ) i decided to redo the sard wheels and use it for this one so they arent stock. this was my very first attempt at making the rims wider in the back so bare with me please, and the paint isnt final, you can see where it over laps and all the messy stuff, i just wanted to get a feel for how it will look, and i personally love it, hope you guys do too :)

enjoy:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/IMG_8022.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/IMG_8023.jpg

you can tell the back rim has a bit of a wider lip on it than the flatter stock sard wheel which looked pretty bad on a supra
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/IMG_8024.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/IMG_8025.jpg

ive been kind of lazy and didnt have much time but all i have left to do really is make an intercooler so i can finish the pipping and the couplings... and then i have to mask and paint the windows/trims. oh and an exhaust as well. than she'll be all done. so stay tuned :)

KevHw

ive been kind of lazy and didnt have much time...
Why do I find that hard to believe when you've been constantly updating your build threads :)
Not really liking the rims. Ride height seems a little high but that's probably because of the tyres. Colour is nice.

ravan17
08-31-2009, 08:03 AM
lol.

the rims you either like or you dont, they are those type. But coming from the supra world, they resembel a couple of different popular rim choices all mixed into one, lol.

for some reason the car seems like its sitting A LOT higher in the pictures than it really is.. weird. i gues it is a bit high now that i go back and look at it. i'll try to reduce the inside diameter of the tire so that it doesnt sit so high and has a lower tire profile. thanks for the heads up.

so i finally had a chance to pull out all of my modeling stuff and set up a new table, here is a little update on this supra, its going into the finishing stages, i jsut installed the front mount today and ran the IC, now just a few more touch ups under the hood and a change of wheels and this car will be all finished, let me know what you guys think:

2 more noob questions. What are you using for heat wrap and What did you use for the heat shield. Just learnin as I go... great job so far btw.

ravan17
02-26-2010, 07:15 AM
heat wrap is some medical take that i painted silver and black and cust into long thin strips and then wrapped it around. The heat shields i make out of thin aluminum sheets that i cut into rectangles and form around a needed diameter pipe or something

Wolf95
02-26-2010, 09:59 AM
I kinda thought that about the heat shield.. but thanks... sorry to unveil your secrets. I'm just trying to learn as I go

ravan17
02-26-2010, 03:34 PM
oh its not secret at all man, i dont mind sharing, i just dont really have time or patience to take a step by step pic b/c when i start working i get carried away for hours at a time

heres an update on the supra, not as big as the update on the Turbo Enzo but an update non the less:

ran the intercooler piping and put on couplings, and im also trying out a Carbon Fiber JDM front spoiler. cool thing about it is that it moves, i can eithr slide it up so you cant see it, slide it down into view, or completley take it off. I kind of like it :)

great job on the motor. Did you MAKE that lip spoiler? it fits perfectly

ravan17
02-27-2010, 05:13 PM
No i didnt make that lip i just put CF decal over it, its the little JDM spoiler that comes with the kit that ive never put on before, but then i realized i could do it in carbon fiber and i thought it looked pretty nice

Wolf95
02-27-2010, 06:13 PM
