Monogram Porsche 924

I've been beavering away at this little curbside kit for quite a while now, trying my best to de-federalise it for my UK shores.

Kit isn't all that great.
My body came covered in a strange glossy film that resembles the stuff found under chromed parts that was a bitch to remove. The body was and still is slightly twisted/warped and as others have mentioned, the rear glass hatch doesn't fit properly; nor is there proper location for it. Then there are the horribly small wheels though I suspect that might actually be accurate for the original car.

Still, it is one of the very few 924 kits out there and the general proportions and shape are pretty spot on if a little soft.

So what did I do to it?
Not a lot.
Front bumper was removed and re-set back and the same was done for the rear. Front bumper had US impacts removed and voids fill in. UK/Euro lights is a simple bodge job of putty with a little texture applied to it then foiled and clear painted. Black trim is black decal paper though I think I was a little heavy handed with it.
That's about it.
The sharp body swage line was re-sharpened using tamiya surface putty to add material then block sanded.

And I lost the star shaped fuel filler cap.

Body is painted with Hycote Double Acrylic (Concerntrated Paint) Ford Graphite Grey (Met).
Protection strip down the sides was masked and painted Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black.
Wheels were stripped of their chrome and given a coat of Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminium.
Other Chrome trim was stripped and sprayed with Plasti-Kote Chrome Enamal Spray.

:lol: And I was going to say, 'hey man, someone stole your fuel cap!' If you need, I might be able to make you one.

Looks great, especially considering the kit you started from. I like the De-federalization. I think that painting the wheel hub center and bolts flat black would make a very nice improvement on the overall appearance.

I love these old simple Monogram kits; they aren't a lot different than some of the expensive curbside resin kits.

You did a really nice job; my biggest gripe with the kit was the lack of a positive location & markings on the rear glass. The wheels are actually quite accurate, tires less so because Michelin TRX's weren't used by Porsche. Your defederalized look is great :sunglasse

This is a model that is hardly ever seen built, especially to today's standards. Most of them were bought/built by kids (back when it was new) and just glued together.

I think you have made an excellent job of it and I like the standard wheels. I went through exactly the same sort of issues when I built the racing Group 4 Martini Version. My only comment would be to see if you could widen the track of the wheels. I substituted the kit axles with some wider ones of my own, a simple but effective fix.

Including Zoom Zoom's very nicely built version that makes a total of only 3 built versions I have seen of Monogram Porsche 924's! My brother is also in the process of building one which had a broken a pillar and was also badly squashed in the box, so it may soon be 4!

Graet model! The only thing I don't like is the front bumper. You could also add more details to the rims (Center caps panted flat black etc.). Anyway I'm glad to see 924 on this forum :) Good Job!

Yeah, looks like I missed the black caps on the wheel centres.
As for the front bumper, I was going to blend it in to match the "real" 924 bumper but well, laziness got the better of me. And yup, I left the two impact bumpers off because I just don't like the look of them.

The fuel filler cap; I'd knock one up when I clear up the other models on my desk....

Looks nice & original, good job with the bumpers as the standard US ones don't look nice. As my brother viccario says I am in the early stages of WIP for the race version that he has done (but in red). The shell was squashed wih one snapped A post and the other severely bent. At least I don't have to mod. the front bumper like you as it has a deep spoiler, but still plenty of other work needed to make it look good. I will start a WIP thread soon.
