99 sl1 wont start? Alarm problem????

I have a 99 Sl1 that has a issue. It broke down a couple weeks ago, Left it running at a store while I ran in real quick, Came back out car had died and would not make a noise when I tried to start. We got it home and after much playing and wondering noticed that if you hold the unlock button down then turn the key the vehicle starts fine. My car has the standard remote unlock/lock keychain and this no longer does anything when any of the buttons are pushed! My husband thought it may be the circuit board (http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1496753#) in the box behind the rear seat that controls the factory alarm/remote entry system. We purchased another "security box" out of the back of another saturn and plugged it into my car...This did not work and neither of the remotes work ( my original or the one from the car we took the box from) Does anyone have any ideas as to what I need to do or what the problem could be.

Additional info: When I hit unlock button on the vehicle it imediatley trys to lock the door back...It is very weird. I can hit it and instantly the lock jerks back to the locked position?????

Someone please help, I am getting desperate wondering what do I try now?

Sorry if the question has already been answered, I posted to the Saturn Fans forum as well and read through as many of the SL series thread as my eyes could stand....I must have missed it, I have not been able to find an answer on there that applys to my problems/situation....If you know the name of the thread or could give me a link to it I would be forever grateful lol...I am so ready to have my car back and right it is pitifull!

"VERY helpful hint. This suggests that one of the lock switches on the doors is faulty. It's constantly trying to lock the door, and getting annoyed that you're trying to do the opposite. Notice how on each switch, as you press LOCK, the UNLOCK button comes out a little, and vice-versa. That's because that's all one button, that sorta "rocks" on a central axle. There's a spring that keeps it "neutral" between LOCK and UNLOCK. That's probably what's failed. Or perhaps the plastic has failed and it's no longer rocking on the axis properly. Check both door switches for this; the more likely culprit is the driver's side (gets more use). If you find one that's not rocking right, disconnect the electrical connector from it and test the RKE and starting again. If you don't find a physical/mechanical issue with either one, disconnect both and test the RKE and starting." - Madpogue

THANK YOU soooo much, I must have completley missed it lol...I stayed awake searching both forums last night until midnight!

I dont think either one of us have checked into the actual lock lol....But we will this evening when we get home! I swear if its something as simple as a malfunctioning button I am going to kiss my car! I will keep my fingers crossed and I will def. let you know how it checks out!!!!! I hope this is the problem....Once I know whats wrong I will feel much better but it sucks not knowing what the problem is lol...

Well, Just figured I would update and try to keep myself from going completely looney! We tried the above solution...Unhooking the locking thingy in the door and well it did not work! :banghead: I am soooo frustrated at this point I have almost resigned myself to my poor saturn never funcioning properly again!

When we unhooked the little box that goes from the door to the locks the car locked and unlocked as it should however it would not start and it made a very strange noise like a dying buzzer kinda sound...I dont know. If anyone out there in fix it land has any suggestions I am open and will try them but for now I am going to give up as I have no clue what to do next!
