2006 Impala Windows Not Working

I can't get any of the windows on my Impala to raise or lower. When I press on the drivers side window switch all I get is a buzzing noise. Also tried the switches on the other doors and they do not work either. I replaced the switch assembly on the drivers side door, but the new switch makes the same buzzing noise. I am sure the noise is coming from the switch itself. This problem has been going on for a while on and off, but now the windows are not working at all. Also noticed that at night the switches are not lit up, but when you press the window switch they light.

I would try running a jumper from the ground on the master switch to the ground on the battery. If that doesn't work unplug the passenger side switch. If that doesn't work than its time for a wiring diagram and a voltmeter.

If the illumination doesn't work until you push the switch than it sounds like either there is a bad ground or there is power back feeding. The ground for the windows all run through the master switch. Since you replaced the switch we can assume than it is functioning correctly. The power back feeding can be caused by the passenger switch because it has its own power source straight from the power window circuit breaker.

Pulled the passenger side switch off, windows still didn't work. So I took the drivers side door apart and removed the window switch. Behind the door panel I separated the large wiring harness and noticed that the black (ground) wire contacts inside both sides of the harness were kinda black. Put the harness back together and the windows worked for a little while, but then went out. Found that if I tug on the wires going to the wiring harness, the windows will work again as long as I'm pulling on the wires.

re-lug the blackened ground wire[s]...tape over the door wiring harness with electrical tape[possible short]...

was this door ever repaired by body shop????

Spliced a ground wire jumper from one side of the harness to the other and it appears to be working fine now.

Well it stopped working again. I took the switch assembly and unclipped it from the door, and if I move it around a bit the windows will work once in a while. I don't think it's the switches, I tried a different switch and still had the same problem. I think it's a short in one or more of the wires or a short in the connector.

Where can I find a wiring diagram for the drivers side window switch?

take the switch assy apart...probably a broken circuit run etc....or just replace assy.
