clock spring replacement

I bought a wrecked 05 Impala LS and purchased from a salvage yard the air bags, module and sensor for the radiator support to replace the blown bags. I have been told that I must replace the clock spring as well. Can anyone tell me if this is mandatory or suggested?

Yes I can.

The driver’s side clock spring caries the current that blows the air bag, so it is recommended that the clock spring be changed along with the deployed air bag.
I will say that after a deployment and replacement of the air bag, the SRS computer will check the clock spring and say that it is good…… most times. That is because the igniter blows open before the clock spring does. They smack that thing with about 10 times the current that is needed to set it off. So If I liked air bags I would replace the clock spring….. It’s not expensive or hard to do. Because of liability of any new air bag deployment there is no way in hell I would ever say that it would work just fine if it needed to go off again
