Hey... how do I get the crank pulley off of my D16Y8? Do I need some kind of special tool to keep the crank from turning?

An impact gun or if is tighter then that, we use a bar that holds the nut on the pully up against the bottom of the car and break the bolt loose with a breaker bar.

Well, I don't really think it's all that tight, I just can't loosen it because when I wrench on it, the crank turns. And the engine is not in a car... I noticed that there is a really large hex-shaped indent on the pulley, and I'm wondering if there is some sort of tool that fits inside it in order to hold the crank in place while wrenching on the bolt... ?

can u use an impact ? cause if u can, the crank wont turn. if not then jam a screwdriver into the flywheel, theres a little plate that covers it, just gotta take that off.

or if you can't do that and have access to a welder or someone to weld you can get creative and build a barcket to go in the hole and up onto the body, but it has to be friggen strong... my dad did that once heh, but i'l always just used the impact gun on mine

there is a special wrench that honda makes. i have one here at the acura dealership that we use on integras all the time. its a big hex head with a hole down the middle to put a socket through, you just put the tool on, and brace it against the frame or the ground, and then go at the bolt with a breaker bar

If you carefully wedge a long pry bar thru the flex plate it will work, i had to do it the other day.....otherwise honda makes a tool for it...

Ya that was what i was talking about. At honda, we have a shop gun that gets the crank pulley bolts off no problme, 1000 lb torque in reverse

Impact gun......and it may need to be a good one. The first two I tried wouldn't do it so I went out and bought a good one. Ingersoll-Rand.
