How to prevent reverse shifting slam?

Anyone knowwhat causes the slam and how to avoid it? I try simply accelerating very very slowly on a 1994 Saturn

Lack of proper maintenance is what causes it. Change your trans fluid and filter often enough and you should never have a problem. It's as easy as changing your engine oil.
