Hi Jon,
I'm glad you like the wheels! It was a pleasure to make them and I'm glad it helps you. :)

Well, here's one of jano11's castings painted! Grey primer and Alclad Aluminium. It's not a brilliant photo but I was keen to get an image posted here as soon as possible. I think the wheel will look even better with a slight wash of oil paint to accentuate the detail and i'll try to get a better photo when conditions allow. Enlarged photographioc images can be rather brutal but please let me assure you that this wheel looks absolutely superb to the naked eye, and is everything I dared hope it would be. The 'chairs & flares' Dino is now a realistic option in 1/24.
If any of you don't like the fact that the wheel is lacking the central hub cap and has the wheel nut and other holes (including valve hole) cast open, please blame me - jano11 designed the wheel exactly as I asked, to suit my specific requirement. I figure it will be an easy task to add any neccessary detail with styrene or whatever.
All people who have ever wanted Dino Campagnolos owe a huge debt of gratitude to jano11!
Jon.

They are perfect!!! You could use the MFH Dino logos for the center cap.
The 246 1972 Lemans car is the one I am doing. It did not have Daytona seats. The body has more modifications than you might think at first glance.

The quality of the work on the seats and wheels would make them worth
atleast $25.00+ for a set. Quality and limited production resin costs money.

Can't wait to get my sets, the wheel on the picture looks really good.
Are you guys going to cast the seats too? I'm definitely interested in a couple of sets as well.
Tom, the 72 LM Dino is the one I have in mind too. I have S27 decals and photoetched goodies from MFH for it. Now the wheels too!
Btw, do you have any reference for the 72 LM car?

Yep, I too think he's done a perfect job!
The campagnolos on Dinos didn't have the Dino logo on the cetnre cap, they had a very subtle 'Campagnolo' script - so subtle, in fact, that it probably wouldn't show in 1/24. On my kit I plan to represent them with a slice of styrene, domed and then painted a slightly diiferent shade of silver than the wheels themselves.
Now.... how can we buy a set of each?
I'm questioning the worth of making two separate and slightly different seats. In truth, I'm getting a bit hacked off making the second seat!
Do people here think a pair of castings of the seat I've completed (and shown a few postings ago) would be OK? Or is there any real benefit in having a pair of seats where the driver's & passenger's are subtly different?
If an identical pair is good enough for everyone, I'm ready to get them cast now. I guess they would then be available ot anyone who wanted them.
Feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon.

That is true, but the Dino logos would still look nice on the models wheels.
Why dont you cast the seat and modify it, then recast.

These Ferrari seats had a common frame with a replaceable insert - standard or 'Daytona'. The inserts are kind of loose, and photos show that they get squashed and squished, and that they move around slightly within the seat frame - the driver's side usually more so than the passenger side, presumably because of the increased usage on that side.
I very much like detail, realism and subtlty but I wonder if I'm going unneccessarily far with this. I doubt the subtle difference between the seats would be noticeable. Of course, if a model is built to depict a new car, the seats should not be at all squashed & squished!

I know the feeling!! The outside window frame trim on the 246 will be hard to duplicate without photoetch. By the way, Hobby Design has just done a photoetch set for the Dino 246. Don't buy the Hiro/Ejay T-kit. Buy the H.D. set. Its even better. Who needs metal parts anyway?? They are just the kit parts recast. Not worth the money. The H.D. set has exhaust tips machined also.

Hi guys,
I know this has taken forever & ever to complete but, finally, there is a real result to show here!
I am hopeless at resin casting but a very kind fellow AF member offered to cast the seats for me. I eventually got the master posted to him and today I received a packet containing enough resin catings for my own personal use. They look great, I think he's done a very good job for me. The little perforations in the seat insert need a quick poke with a small drill bit, but that is a very quick & simple job. Other than that the seats look 100% to me!
I won't say who this person is but if he wants to post in this thread he can identify himself. I have told him that if he wants to sell castings to other AF members he can do so.
I'll leave it to him to come here and say if he will sell castings, how much they would cost etc....
Jon.

As an extra to this thread, may I ask a question to you all?
I am nowhere near as experienced, dedicated or knowledgeable about this hobby as most people on this forum and I'm pretty much in the dark about the aftermarket parts industry.
I made the seat simply because I wanted one for my Dino build and it was only after I posted here that I realised some other modellers also wanted the same thing.
So, my question is this: what sort of demand is there for extras such as seats, or other odd things? I enjoy making things from scratch and I'm wondering if there are there are other things I could contribute....

There's always a demand, it just depends on the part, and what people are into building at the current time. I know from personal experience that some parts can sell only a few pieces, while others will sell like crazy, and furthermore some can become very popular and very unpopular in waves. It also boils down to the quality of the finished product, and how user-friendly they are.

Jon,
If you build it, they will come.
Everyone is always wanting to add to their models, be it kitbashing, scratchbuilding or getting things like these seats. So many modelers want to be able to add the exact part to make their model just what they want it to be, that I would say any component that you come up with if done as well as these seats is going to sell. The only hard part is getting connected with the people who would want such stuff, and Automotive Forums is a good first step.
Good Luck!
Carl

I would also say that it helps to identify a car kit that is egregiously lacking a particular, important detail that most modelers wished was there. For example, the Fujimi 355 that doesn't have proper door panels (nniemi made some excellent ones and sold them for a short time) or an airbag-style steering wheel (notably, early euro berlinettas had the non-airbag wheel, but most spiders, including the euro cars, had the airbag wheel). Another example might be the Tamiya BMW Z3, which has awful kit wheels, and lacks the traditional five spoke wheels.

It took me time to make the mold as I'm very busy right now but I'll start casting them this coming Sunday.
There will be 5 pieces in each set.
Please send me a PM with the number of sets you would like to have.
I will also contact philmodelcar to see if we can make a wheels+seats package.
I take advatange of this opportunity to announce you that the 20" BBS Challenge rims for Ferrari 599 and 612 are also available and Pirelli PZero tires will be available in a week or so. :)

No!! It's not a hijack!! Seriously, my part of the thread is finished and your contribution is fantastic. This forum is a modelling COMMUNITY.
And I'd still like you to show photos of the new wheels here :)
I'll take pictures of the finished wheels when I get home Sunday (I'm 1500 kms from home, so no can do).
Meanwhile I'll re-post the picture I already posted a month or so ago when I was starting to clean up the wheel and thin the spokes:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2161/3881620127_a5428d930e.jpg
It definitely looks better now, just be patient until Sunday morning. ;)
And while we are at it, and given that you aren't upset with me hijacking this thread, the Hamann style wheels are also available in 20" and 21" versions plus the M3 E46 wheels. :D

I was away since the 2nd day after making the first copy of the rim, I promised bvc500 the pictures more than a week ago and I didn't yet manage to keep my promise. :(

No worries, Ioan!
This thread is now "Most wanted parts thread!"
Both of your work is great! I ordered the seats from Phil. I plan on using them for my Daytona spider. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they were option on the Daytona too? I see similar seats on the Daytonas.
Here's an idea: since the wheels will be available, what about side skirts and other body parts for the Hamann 599?

This might happen too but it will take a bit of time, hopefully not as long as the wheels! :)
I'll be traveling in a few hours and will have internet connection again only Sunday, I'll contact you then.
Have a nice weekend!

...or actually the Novitec 599, which I like better (a little more subtle).

Hmmm, not exactly, no. The seat insert pattern is the same but the seat frame is a different shape & size.
Funnily enough, I have a Fujimi Daytona kit and I was considering improving those seats.

Cool, thanks for pointing that out. Well, I've been meaning to build a Dino (in Dino blue no less), and I'll wait for Daytona seats, should you improve them!

Well, I ran into a real chairs and flares Dino 246 GTS today at the Lake Forest Sportscars open house near Chicago. They also have another almost identical car for sale at the dealer, if anyone is looking for a real one.
This is a full option car with air conditioning, wheels and Daytona seats.

Thanks for your compliments.
I'll be away until Sunday evening.
However all the rims presented above will be available next Monday and the tires for the BBS Challenge should be good to go next Tuesday or Wednesday.
I'll keep you all updated.

Just wanted to share some rather unpleasant experience with member Philmodelcar (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=237463).
As soon as he posted a message that the seats are available, I sent him a PM asking whether he had two sets in stock, and how much it will be. After 3 days of silence, I got the following message:
Hello,
I have indeed casted the Dino seats made by Cheesey153.
If you want to order the seats, please send your message directly to my e-mail address : *** stating your complete postal address.
The price for one set is 16 USD shipping included and 25 USD for 2 sets.
Once payment with Paypal is received the seats will be sent.
Payapl address : **** ([email protected])
Thanks to let me know.
Phil (philmodelcar)
To which I responded with a PM:
Excellent! I'll forward the funds via Paypal for 2 sets shortly.
Thanks Phil.
Alex
Once the payment was sent, I PM him again:
payment has been sent.
Alex
Then I got a very rude response that follows?
Why can't people just follow instructions...
please send me your address ONLY BY E-MAIL if you want me to ship it !
thanks
I felt not only insulted by this manner, but a bit puzzled as to what caused him to write such an irritated response. So I PMed him again:
What's up Phil? Just having a bad day or had too much coffee? If you want people to buy stuff from you, how about you be more professional with your customers? What you wrote was absolutely uncalled for. I for one don't have time to write useless emails with my address when it is included with Paypal payment. This is what its for - look it up.
Alex
Only to get another insult today via email:
keep your money, please.
it's easier for me. I'm not a business partner, I have done this not to earn any money but to satisfy a few fellows and if you have no time to waset writting e-mails, I have no time to waste with you.
Now, you should know that on the e-mail received from Paypal, there is NONE delivery address.
Secondly the message I had sent to the e-mail address written in the Paypal message failed to deliver because of exceeded mailbox....
Adios.
My payment has been refunded.
While I agree that did not send an email with my address, it was included with the payment. My schedule is such that I simply forget things like that. Seller attitude was absolutely rude, and uncalled for. Make your own conclusions.

Wauw that is surprising since I too use Paypal allot and as I recall the shipping address is always included :frown:
Oh whell.
Could I get a quote on the 20 inch Hamann's (2 set's of 4 rims), The seats are $ 16 if I am correct.
Keep me updated for the Hamann body parts please.
I may have over seen something about the Dino rims but if someone made them I would like a quote on those too.
There so many good things on this forum that it just amazes me.
Many thanks,
Arno.

Hello,
I will not add any comments to 360spider 's reply. It's not worth it.
I will just say that I have had excellent communication with all the other people who ordered the parts from me but unfortunately there is always in the lot an exception.
All satisfied members will probably agree and others don't...
that's life
:-)
