Heys guys has anyone ever heard of an oil pressure switch blowing,my car was blowing the oil right out threw it when the car is started up,lost a lot of oil, being a weekend and the dealer being closed on the weekend we took it out and welded the hole at the end of the switch and put it back in the engine to temp stop the oil from coming out,i unhooked the neg term to clear the code, now since my 3400 impala is a base model and had base cluster i upgraded to an ss cluster and the only thing that don't work in the gauges is the oil gauge,my question is what switch controls the the gauge to make the oil gauge work,is the oil pressure switch off to the right side of the engine above the starter that i just temp fixed and when i get a new switch tell them i want the one to fit the ls or ss to make the oil gauge work or do i have to replace the switch that is right by the oil filter with one wire going to the switch and upgrade that to an ls or ss switch in order to get my oil gauge to work

Someone can correct me if im Wrong, but the one thats by the starter is the Oil LEVEL sender (its actually in the Oil pan) and the one by the filter is the Oil pressure switch.

As far as upgrading the sender, I believe the wiring needed that the LS+ have is missing, and the PCM is also not programmed to read readings from a Pressure sender, just On/off of a pressure switch.

Hemi is correct. The 3.4 only has an oil pressure switch, not a oil pressure sensor. The oil pressure gauge will not work with the 3.4 engine, as the PCM does not send a signal to the cluster with oil pressure. It only sends an "oil pressure light on/off" signal.
