ok i have a 2001 impala that sometimes starts othertime i need to wait 15-30 before it will start. have replaced the switch, replaced the BCM, and still have the same problem. they have talked about maybe it is the transmission. having read some of theses notes sounds like it might be my passlock also. please someone has to be able to help me. or maybe knows of someone i can take this car to to be fixed. just need it to go when i need it to!!!:crying:

Just making sure, Some times she starts first try, others you have to wait 15 minutes? Sure sounds like Passlock to me. If you've already replaced the "Ignition SWITCH", Try cleaning your Ignition Cylinder, but you might have to replace the Cylinder (switch is actually a sperate component behind the Cylinder so).
Edit: First If you haven't already, Try your other Key. Could also just be a really worn out key.

K when it does a no start, do you get the passlock message on your Message Center?

no i get nothing everything works except the car will not start. someone told me to turn the key to on leave for 10-15 min let the security like blink than take the key out wait a min and put key back in and it will start and this has worked most of the time. my grandkids now keep books in the car to read when it will not start so they have something to do.

Huh weird. I have to ponder about that. Passlock WOULD yeild a message on the Message center when it does that.

sorry had to take grand daughter to panio. got stuck twice. i have noticed that sometimes when i put the car in drive that the door locks do not lock. so i stop put it back into park than back into drive and the doors lock. this does not happpen all the time but just not sure if that means anything. after reading some of these replies i just thought it would be that passlock also. i mean when it does not start like i said i just wait 15-30 min and it starts right up and runs fine. it has my tech stumpped and the dealers like i said do not even want it until it will not start at all. this has been going on for a year now at first it was just maybe every three weeks to a month but it is getting worst. it is at least two or three times every time i drive it now. when i need gas i go early 5am so i do not have to shut it off. have gotten stuck at the pump what a bummber

If Passlock was preventing the start, it should show "Security" in the message center.
I have done the resistor bypass, and it works perfectly, but I did it in an Alero, not an Impala. They both use the same Passlock system, however.
I wonder if the gear shift interlock is worn out or out of adjustment. It may be called something else, I'm thinking of the switch that prevents the car from starting while the gear shift is not in park. That may explain your doors not locking also, the BCM doesn't know the shift lever has been moved out of park.
Next time it won't start, try wiggling the gear shift while turning the key.

ok i have tried to move the shifter nothing i have even tried putting it down into nutral nothing. the security light does come on sometimes after i start the car like in the morning when i go out to start the car before i go to work. if the car will start after a few minutes the security light will flash this does not happen all the time. all i do is turn off the car and restart it and the light will go away. now at first they thought it might be the nutral swith in the transmission but my nutral switch i guess is in inside my transmission and would cost almost a grand to fix they said and because they have aready put close to that in it now and still have the same problem they want it to quit and not restart before they will look at it. (this is everyone i have called) i have taken it in right after it has quit to have the error codes read but every time they read the codes after the new BCM was put in it is comming up with no error codes. go figure everyone is stumped. but i will try wiggling the shifter the next time it will not start.

I think I may have the same thing going on right now. We were experiencing this problem last year. I ended up taking the car to the dealership and they told me I needed a new BCM, so I paid the $400 last October and everything has been fine since today. I live in Michigan, so October weather is fairly cool. Today is one of the first real warm days that my wife has been driving the car and she had to make multiple stops. Well, at her last stop after turning the car off, going in for 5 minutes, then coming out, car did not start. She had to wait another 15 minutes almost like the car had to cool a bit and then it would start. But, this happened alot before we replaced the BCM also in the summer/heat. I just figured this problem would be gone. So now that the weather is getting warm again, this problem has come back. It's not happened once in the cooler/winter months. Any thoughts? I have no dash lights on, no error codes, nothing, just have to wait 15-20 minutes and try to start and then it will start....

Crank no start or no crank at all? If it cranks then someone has to check for spark and FP. I assume this is a 3.4?, What year also?

no crank at all nothing when turning the key if i leave the key in the on position the security light will blink. everything else in the car works. just have to wait 15 min and than the car will start and run fine. i think now it is the passlock system but not sure how to fix that problem.

i put a new BCM in the car last summer and it was fine for about a month and than it started the problem all over again it would go a week before it would not start again. but now it is doing it everytime i drive it at least two to three times. it is really beginning to be a real pain.

This again can be any component in the Pass Lock including the bcm, it will have to be scanned with a scanner that can access the bcm to diagnose this properly, there is no quick answer here.

ok it has been scanned several times and it is comming up with no codes it was even scanned after the new BCM was put in and it would not start the next day took it back to the dealer and they scanned it and it read no errors.???????
