Lock Jammed, Sliding Door, '02 Windstar

'02 Windstar, 90k. The driver's side power sliding door won't open due to the unlock mechanism not functioning. When i press the unlock button, the lock shaft moves up slightly, but not far enough to actually unlock it. It also won't move up far enough even if i pull on it while pressing the unlock button. The problem started out as intermittent, but now it is officially stuck! Is there an easy way to get the door panel off with the door closed? Anybody seen this issue? Thanks!
