I've done the tranny flush thru the cooler lines discussed here in this forum on my Windstar with great success. Excelent write up and easy to follow directions.

Now I would like to do the same procedure on my 2005 Chevy car with a Hydra-Matic 4T45-E automatic. But I need some help or direction as there's a little problem with the cooler lines! I cannot disconnect the return line coming from the cooler and going to the tranny since GM decided to hook up both lines together with a plate and a single bolt fastening both lines in place at the tranny, so I can't have one hose disconnected (return) and keep the other plugged (output).

So I thought of disconnecting the return cooler line from the radiator but there seems to be a special fastener holding the lines in place, have any of you done it on a Chevy before? Are there any special tools needed? I'ts kinda hard to see. Also the Chilton repair manual doesn't go into details, mentions any special tools or shows any pictures for disconnecting the cooler lines at the radiator.

And then if I manage to get the return line undone at the radiator, does anyone know the type of fastener used to hold the cooler line? I need to find out since I would have to rig some sort of hose adapter to direct the flow of old fluid to the bucket I'll be using for collecting.

I've searched and looked and cannot find anywhere any info on a home made tranny flush, or the way the tranny hoses hook up at the radiator. So I was wondering if any of you have done this before that could offer me some pointers before I end up messing something up.

I don't know anything about your vehicle, but have thoughts. Could you cut the plate that holds the lines together and fashion a way to hold them? On my Fords, I don't if it came from factory this way or the dealer did it, but one of the trans hoses is clamped with a regular hose clamp to a straight metal line. No barbed end, fitting. Makes me think the pressure can't be that high to do that, neither does the pressure need to be high just to circulate it through the coolers. But, I wouldn't know if the pressure in your car lines are low enough to install such an arrangement. I seem to recall that you must use trans rated hose if you are adding it in to make a splice that you can disconnect for draining. Someone else said they use brake hose. I don't know how he got it if it can be bought at all by the foot off a spool or what. If you are worried about your hose staying on, double clamp it at each connection with the tightening screws opposite each other.

What I'm referring to is something similar to what Chrysler does to the A/C lines. Two lines connected together at a juncture or manifold by a single bolt in the middle. If I cut it in half I won't be able to re-attach the lines to the tranny later.

Sorry but I can't get a picture to illustrate, it's become hard to find info online about this trannies. I did a search for Pontiac forums looking for answers since they use the same tranny and ended up getting a virus on my PC. That's why I ended up coming back here for help.
