Hi I need to change my front speakers and was wondering how do I remove the front door panels to get to the speakers. I have a SL1 - 96. Some had mentioned that the grill comes off - I think that is for models after 96.
Anyone any guidance would be helpful

I have a 97 sl2 and i too would like to change my front door speakers. I'm in the same boat as you, i don't think my grilles come off and i have no idea how to take the panels off. I've got the premium sound package but the front speakers are starting to buzz like they're torn so it's time to put in some new ones. Now if we can just get someone to answer this post!

I dont know if this reply is a little late but i just did mine, and its pretty easy. First there is four screws that hold the door panel on. Theres one at the very bottom there is tew in that handle piece and theres one behind the latch that opens the door. Make sure you do not lose the screws. After this you have to take off the whole door handle mechanism. THis is kind of tough. First pop out the handle from the panel, and then there will be two rods one is for the locking mechanism the other is for the actual latch the opens the door. Take a good look at it and remember how it goes on, and then just pop out the two rods, and then gently pop off the piece that has the mirror adjuster on it and grab the door handle and slowly remove the panel, it make take a little pulling and pushing but it will eventually come off then you are all set to throw in your speakers.

Hey! Thanks! By the way, before i try this, does your car have power locks? Will this complicate things, or do i just have some wires to unplug? Hey, does anyone know the output rating per channel for the premium sound package? Just wonderin.

if yours is like my 94 sl2 then its easier to first remove the outer door panel (6 or 8 t30 torx screws along edge of door). To remove the outer panel undo the screws, then the outside door handle must come off (lift up on the handle, look underneath, you will see a small pin that must be pushed in, push it in then slide the handle to the left it will come off easy) then remove the outer door skin. now you have clear easy access to the door latch rod and lock rod. there is a small white plastic clip on them attaching them to the corresponding internal handles. it should be self-explanitory at this point how to disconnect them (you will tell when you see them) then remove the inside door panel as described above.

no no no no no there are no screws or any thing like that. i have a 1995 sl and just put in a new cd player and 4 new pioneer 4 way speakers. all you have to do for the front is stick a small screwdriver in the little crack around the grille and gently pry it back(carefull...cheap plastic!!) 4 screws hold on the speakers(dont drop them in the door) when ur done just puch the thing back on, the back is tougher.. talk to me later bout that tough ass pickle
