I have an 01 sable that starts to buck and lurch when going up hills. I thought it was in the tranny but someone told me it sounds like the engine is missing. Has anyone ever had this problem and if so how did you fix it?

Have you checked to see if any codes are being stored? Try that first...should not cost you anything. If you go to your local chain-type auto store they should scan it for free.

I have the same problem. The only code stored is a keep alive voltage low. If you figure it out let me know. I would love to get mine fixed too.

What size engine do you have ?

How much fuel in the tank when this happens ?

Does the "Check Engine" light flash or come on when this happens ?

When is the last time you did a tune-up, including the fuel filter, to this vehicle ?

Does it do it every time you are going up an incline ?

Just trying to get some background.

My 97 Mercury Sable GS 3.0 V6 with 173,450 miles does similar but it is if i slow down to turn corner and accelerate or from a stop and try to go it wont go anywhere but revs and then kicks. Gas is different levels, doesn't happen all the time. I've read that it could be bad sensor in computer. And I've been told it could need a trans filter change. I've never changed fuel filter either. I bought this used in 2003 after guy ran light and totalled my car. I also can go long distance and have on cruise control and see the needles for the mph and rpm fluctuate even on steady speed of cruise control. THe other day I stopped for kids in the street and had to put car in reverse then drive to go again. Could this be a sensor or more serious transmission problem? Karen
