Anyone know what other years will match up to my 98 windstar, 3.8 l. Will one out of a 96 work? what about one from a different ford with a 3.8?I can get a 96 windstar, complete van with a rebuilt tranny for next to nothing, hoping it will fit in my 1998.

Hum.....I thought I put an answer here last night......

Anyhow.....in short....I don't know if a '96 tranny will work.
Best place to find out is a tranny shop, as they will have the books to look it up.
I tried looking on the JASPER website...but you have to create an account and log in to get to any vehicle specific information.....also worth tring....or just calling them.

Looking at www.motorcraft.com

For 1998 3.8L windstar now this gets more interesting......depends on when in the model year your vehicle was built....

just for grins.....1997 and 1999.....list different part number from the 1998.

What is different between them?....I do not know.
This is why one needs to find out from someone who knows what they are talking about.

There is a reason for different part numbers......I'm sure that a after market rebuild supplier would love to be able to stock 1 line to cover multiple applications.

One small bit of information is that Mercon V is NOW to be used in all the windstar transmissions.

Thanks for all the info. I bought another vechicle, so dont know what im going to do with it. Someone told me that if the 8 th digit in the VIN was the same that the tranny should work.I will think about it. Thanks.
